    Re: ARMA III

7th Cav, 6 man Army Airborne paratrooper mission from last night. We are tasked with being dropped behind enemy insurgent lines. A terror group such as ISIS or Al-Qaeda has occupied several towns and we are sent in to clear these towns out.

Just hitting the dirt after our drop in and gathering supplies.

Sniper providing over watch as we move in to clear our first town. We would come under heavy gun fire here but managed to remove all insurgents.

I wish I kept taking pictures but I got distracted because the action was intense lol.

Any OS guys, if you want to take part in missions tonight. Please let me know here so I can send out server info, mods needed, and teamspeak info.

Thursday I will not be available for missions, I have a 7th Cav meeting. So tonight or Friday is best nights to link up for some mission work if you new guys want to get your feet wet and learn how to play.

This game seems so badass. Too bad it will never come to a console. All we get are dumbed down twitch call of duty shooters... Out of curiosity, what kind of rig do I need to run arma 3 well?

Me and Paper ran two different missions last night. He did good for a rookie

Us preparing to move into a valley which was covered by snipers. Our mission was to take out a set of Rocket launchers in a town.

Papercut, on alert, knowing we are closing in on the enemy

Papercut engaging enemies at the end of the tree line, 75 meters away is to close for comfort.

Short couple runs, just to get his feet wet with coop play.

                          Tips Id give ya Paper.

                          1) Double tap control to lower your weapon or raise it. In the lowered position it takes far less stamina drain when on longer hikes when you are unaware of enemy contact.

                          2) Once weapon is raised you have two fighting positions. These should only be used when combat is near. The first is your weapon at your hip. This is used more for observation but with the chance of contact if you need to ring out a burst from the hip. The second is when your gun is at the ready to aim down sights. This will take the largest stamina drain but is critical to sight weapon fast when you know engagement is imminent. The most commonly used method of movement for a squad to maintain formation.

                          3) Don't be eager to just rush ahead. This will one, tire you out so when you do get in the fight your aim is off because of your heavy breathing. Two, it will put more concentration of fire on you. If you noticed, I would not die until everyone else was dead. Engagements in ARMA are a lot farther than what you are use to, 400 to 600 meters is a common engagement range.

                          4) Read this http://ttp3.dslyecxi.com/ it will help you on the tactics and movement employed in ARMA

Other than a couple things, you did great for your first run. Slowing down your shooter tendency to run towards the thick of the fighting will be your most useful change.

Phobia - Great writeup! Just stumbled across this thread and I'm very excited to see other OSers interested in Arma 3. I've had it since pre-Alpha, but haven't really messed with it much until lately. I have a few buddies that like playing Dayz, so that takes a lot of my time. I'm wanting to get back into Arma 3, but not sure where to start. Do you have any tips for mods that are a must and just getting your "feet wet". I've gotten so used to Dayz (which uses a lot of the same keyboard layout, but not all is needed to play), that I'm worried I might be in over my head LOL. Thanks again for any help!

Mods you have several which are required.

                              1) CBA_A3

                              2) AGM

                              3) Task Force Radio, read how to install this with TeamSpeak 3

                              4) Shacktac HUD

                              5) Blastcore

                              6) Bornholm Map

This rounds out your required mods for a lot of realism servers. Now I'd suggest holding off on a sound mod until April 8th when the new patch releases that includes the new sounds. If you are still not happy with the sounds I suggest JSRS DragonFyre or Speed of Sound.

If you need help on how to install and run mods just let me know.

When it comes to getting your feet wet, don't really jump straight into missions even though that is what feels natural. ARMA is not a shooter like other games, really it is not much of a game but a military simulation sandbox. So to understand everything that the game has to offer I'd do the boot camp, then VR training, weapon challenge course, then finally running some training ops with some members on tactics. Stacking then breach and clearing buildings is a important skill that a squad needs to know how to do properly. Formation movement is another critical skill to keep a team alive and fighting to a optimum level.

If we get 5 or 6 OS regulars here, I can show you guys on proper tactics with this kind of stuff. Plus acting like a effective team will bring more fun to the missions.

Speaking of missions, I can get us new ops to run as often as we can get everyone together.
