He exudes enthusiasm for the games that Gearbox produces, so we were glad that we got a chance to sit down in his office and talk about the things that will stand out to the future players of Borderlands 2. • Gunzerker Leads a Cast of All-New Characters and All-New Classes: Step into the role of the Gunzerker, whose highly deadly skills allow him to dual-wield any two weapons found in the game. Not only that, you will build on that skill to do more things with two guns than you ever imagined possible. Dual machine guns? Cool. Dual rocket launchers? Of course! Dual Sniper Rifles? Sure, if that’s your thing! Want to try other styles? More tactical perhaps? There are multiple classes to choose from!

• Dynamic Co-op online, split-screen and LAN: Share your adventures with friends both online and via LAN. Borderlands 2 features a seamless system enabling you to drop in and drop out of a campaign without ever having to restart the game. On top of that you can even take your new gear from any game to any other!

• World Connected Story: You will find yourself left for dead in the frozen tundra of Pandora as you begin your quest of revenge and redemption. Expose the evil surrounding the Hyperion Corporation and take on the perpetrator of a universe-wide grand deception — the nefarious Hyperion CEO, Handsome Jack. (Oh, also: he’s stolen credit for the opening of the Vault.)

• New Badass Gun System: An entirely new take on the groundbreaking procedural system means millions upon millions of possible weapons. The variety and style of guns in Borderlands 2 is staggering, and you’ll see tons of new and innovative ways to engage foes on Pandora. Fire, electricity, corrosive acid, and much more will all be at your disposal as you fight your way through the Hyperion Corporation’s forces!

• 87 Bazillion…Everything: In addition to the new gun system, you will lust after procedurally generated shields, grenades, Alien Artifacts, class mods and much, much more. And you thought the original Borderlands had a ton of loot!

• Brand new environments on Pandora: Hunt through entirely brand new areas of Pandora that are more alive than ever! From the arctic tundra, through the dangerous grasslands, past the mysterious corrosive caverns to beyond, you’ll be surprised by the unpredictable world of Pandora at every turn!

• Brand new enemies: A whole slew of new enemies are out there to kill you in Borderlands 2. Hulking, gorilla-like Bullymongs, vicious predatory Stalkers and the Hyperion mechanical army, run by Handsome Jack, are just some of the new enemies you will be facing off against on Pandora. New strategies will need to be created for every fight, as enemies now interact and aid each other to ensure you don’t get far in the world of Pandora.

Hmm, so far no word of S&S or Atlas, and no word of explosive element. It's like they are removing some of my favorite things from the first game.

I still know the game is going to be awesome and I'll waste a ton of hours playing it.

Gearbox promises a wholesale overhaul to the way enemies behave in combat. You'll find enemies who are more keenly aware of their surroundings and chances of survival, jumping up to higher ledges to flank you, dodge out of the way of gunfire, or slink off behind cover and back toward safety when they're critically injured. "Enemies are actually going to work together, call plays, and take more advantage of the environment," says Gibson. At least, the smart ones will do that. The psychos, everyone's favorite raving lunatics from the first game, still operate with a mantra that Gibson describes as, "Wow that's a gun! I want my face in front of it."

Getting around from quest to quest looks to be easier thanks to reworked vehicle physics. Gibson promises that your car of choice will no longer freak out when it clips the slightest rock, reacting more smoothly to bumps along the road while adding more variance to the previously zero-sum game of trying to run over enemies. (It was either you killed them dead, or they stopped your car.) Speaking of navigation, Gibson also boasts that views of the gameworld from high-up vantage points are now "geographically correct" rather than a faked skybox, meaning that you can now spot someplace you'd like to go and simply head in that direction until you get there.

Gearbox wants to make quests more about being self-contained adventures and less about being sent off on yet another fetch quest.

Borderlands is famed for its insane weapon variables, and the sequel aims to not only up the number but also to apply the procedural-generation tech to every collectible in the game, not just the guns.

Players can look forward to that randomizing tech being used to create grenades, artifacts found throughout the world, as well as class modifications.

The biggest addition to Borderlands already-fun driving is that you can now have four players in a vehicle at one time, solving the original game’s problem of not enabling players to all bundle into a mode of transport at one time.

Which is welcome news considering that Borderlands 2 is going to be big on exploration. The demo features a few magnificent vistas to take in (there are even rumblings that you’ll be heading to Pandora’s moon at one point, which supposedly houses Handsome Jack’s hideout).

The girl in yellow in the last pic is rumored to be Maya, one of the four playable characters. From other screenshots I've seen she has similar tattoos as Lillith.

I hope they show more characters soon. The Gunzerker doesn't interest me that much.

This is beautiful. I'm so glad that they're getting away from the same old sand and dirt environments from the first game. That was one of the major things that annoyed me.

I'm glad they kept the great "boss names" bits that were in the original Borderlands.

Best Buys website says April 10 as the release date. It also says pending. April would be awesome.
