That's true, but I'd just like to take a peek to see how they handled certain common programming issues. Sometimes I look at the Quake 2 code and say "Wow, thats very interesting." Carmack is a near-genius but has sloppy coding style IMO. Plus, Ive already got my demo going so I dont need to "borrow" that engine.

Its the code for the game. Its the instructions that the programmers write to tell the machines how to do what they want them to do to define their game. Source code gets compiled into those .dll's, .exe's, etc. that you see that run your game.

If you are someone like me, it is absolutely vital to have a demo. About half the game companies out there ask for some type of game demo when applying for an entry-level job at their company as a programmer or artist. It is a proof of some experience.

I agree. While some will want to just copy the code verbatim and create near replicas of the original, most 'good' coders will just want to look over the code. It definitely helps when you are trying to figure out how someone handles occlusion and other techinical attributes which the gamer takes for granted.

I would LOVE to see the code behind this bad boy. If it makes the wheels in your brain spin, thats all that it will be good for. You might be able to take a few snippets of original code, but thats about it. And no, the old junior high practice of 'take your friends program and make it your own by changing the variable names' isnt gonna work here

I want to make a game now. Sonicmage, let me know if you need any help with any projects you might be working on
