    Re: NES/SNES Gaming Thread

Haven't posted here in a while once again. Still, my collection keeps on growing. I'll upload new pics here soon.

My next big game purchase will most likely be a Philips CDi or Turbo Grafx 16. The CDi doesn't necessarily have good games, but there's still some nostalgic factor about it to me. Playing those horrible Zelda games or Hotel Mario, for instance.

Still have my originals. Both work as if they were brand new. I have a few NES games that need special attention to get working, but other than that everything works fine.

Every time i get the urge to play a NES/SNES game. I set up the system and load up the game. Then quickly i realize that the idea of playing said game is better than actual playing the game itself.

          Re: NES/SNES Gaming Thread

Went to my local V-Stock Store (Vintage Stock) today and traded in two PS3 games I wasn't playing and got a ton of classics in return. I was able to get the following:
NES: Kings of the Beach, Bases Loaded 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, and Rescue: Embassy Mission.
Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog, WWF Royal Rumble, and Ultimate SpiderMan.
          SNES: Urban Strike

This all came up to $30.55. With the trade I payed $0. I felt like I got a pretty good deal. Can't wait to start playing these bad boys tonight.

This is often very true for me. Strange phenomenon.

Still have my original SNES, Genesis, Turbo Grafix 16, N64 & PS2 and a bunch of games.

Wish I had kept my PS1, NEO GEO and Dreamcast.

Maybe you're just playing the wrong games?

Most old sports games outside of Tecmo Bowl, EA NHL, and a couple baseball games have held up poorly.

But there are tons of platformers, action games, shooters, RPGs, etc. that play great to this day.

I kept all of my classic games and consoles, in a way it lets me mess around with emulators since I already have all the stuff... and some games look better on a computer screen nowadays.

The only retro gaming I do these days is on the Wii's Virtual Console, which is pretty amazing in my opinion, I love it. I recently picked up Chrono Trigger and Super Mario World, 2 of my favorite games ever for the SNES. Also picked up Paper Mario for the N64, which I never played before but so far is an awesome RPG. I will pick up more retro games when I'm done with these. I'm probably in the minority but I'm loving my Wii.

If you like N64 Paper Mario, definitely check out the Gamecube sequel.

                      It's even better.

Yeah, I picked up the sequel on the Gamecube as well as the Wii game. I heard the Gamecube version is the best one so I will wait to play that last. I'll probably play through the Wii version when I"m done with the N64 game.

Totally. Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario RPG are too of my favorite games to play to this day. So much fun.

I just randomly thought of Vegas Stakes yesterday. That game had a lot of good ideas and I can't think of a game that's used them since.

                              I loved that game.

Perhaps I should have elaborated on my statement. There's still a lot of old school games I can have fun with and enjoy. For instance, I had a post earlier in the previous page where I discussed going the distance in Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers.

I think older games have worked best for me when they've been accessible. If I find them on my computer and I can just click and go, or if I use them on someone's Wii, everything usually seems to be all good. I was more or less referring to the moment that tends to happen when I'm home and going through my brother's old room, discovering our old NES or Sega and saying to a friend, "Lets hook 'em up! It'll be the best thing ever!" By the time we untangle the cords, figure out what mode the TV needs to be on, and sift through the games that no longer work (or need to be cleaned) the reward doesn't always seem to match the effort put forth. Then after we have our hour or two of fun, it quickly becomes, "Good grief, look at all this mess. What were we thinking?"
