    Re: Rocksmith

    Justinguitar.com is a great resource

I love the idea of this game and really feel that it should have been this way from the beginning; it's too bad that the gaming segment is pretty much burnt out on music games.

Learning guitar is all about maintaining interest, I'm all for any tool that helps you keep your fingers on the actual instrument. Maybe I'll write a blog about the beginning steps of learning to play.

      Re: Rocksmith

Rocksmith is definitely a niche game. It will be interesting to see how much support it gains. I am not expecting much because of the sheer amount of time that is involved in learning to play the guitar. I think that will turn off a lot of people pretty quickly if they are not serious and committed to putting in the time. I always wanted to learn, and I saw Rockband 3 as my way of finally doing so. It was fun, but I found out rather quickly that I needed more of a foundation - hence the online lessons. As a result, I haven't really touched RB3 since I first got it.

Rocksmith suits me much better as a supplemental learning tool. I totally agree that learing guitar is all about maintaining interest. Rocksmith helps with that.

I definitely don't see a game like Rocksmith being anyone's only source for guitar instruction but if it helps, then great!

Check out the blog I wrote on learning guitar.

I've been interested in learning guitar ever since guitar hero came out. But since I can't read music to save my life, it's been pretty much impossible to learn. Might be asking for this around Christmas as well.

I don't know anyone that plays guitar and can actually read music. You use tabs on guitar which isn't that difficult.

Reading music isn't hard. It's actually very helpful as far as knowing what you're doing with music theory and what key the song is. Tabs will tell you what is being played, but that's it.

Borrowed my dad's extra electric acoustic today. Mentioned the game to my brother last night who has no interest in video games. Wants to go half and half

Pawn shop. They are bound to have some kind of electric guitar or electric acoustic for under $100. I don't know a lot about guitars, but I would bet the one that it comes with is pretty decent and you getting a good deal with the bundle.

Check out Guitar Center too. I looked online and they had some electric for around $50.

Most of these types of people aren't musicians.

Most musicians completely ignore tabs and use music sheets only and/or play by ear.

Depends what a person wants to be - just a guitarist, or a real musician.

My friend's been bugging me about this game. I thought it was older, but it was only released about a month ago.

I've been saying to myself, just get a guitar instead of a guitar video game... but this looks enticing. May put it on the Christmas list.

This game's biggest disadvantage sales wise is people thinking it's Guitar Hero with a real guitar. I've had to explain to my brother over and over that "it will teach you the ****ing guitar it's not guitar hero!!!"

Oh and it's $10 off on Amazon right now. No tax, free shipping.

                              Re: Rocksmith

I have been playing guitar for about 4 years now and this game was exactly what I needed. I got to a point where I felt like I wasn't getting any better and getting really frustrated with it. I bought this the day it came out and it hasn't come out of the PS3 since. The best thing about it is that it only gets more difficult as you get better on each song. You could probably breeze through the game, but if there is a song you like you could keep practicing on until you master it. I'm really hoping they start putting out more downloadable songs. A lot of the songs that come with the game I had never heard of. I haven't noticed any bugs other than one time it locked up when it was loading a song. I restarted it and it worked fine.

The only drawback is actually owning a guitar. I was in a Guitar Center this week and they had used Epiphone Les Paul Jr.'s for less than $70. You don't need a Gibson to play this game. Any guitar with a pickup (passive or active) will work.

For anyone that has in interest in starting to play the guitar or someone like me that was stuck in a rut, I would highly recommend this game.

Just got it in the mail today. Only thing is my guitar is back at school.

Can you use it with an acoustic guitar? Just go through the guides or something, maybe start learning the chords. I have a couple here, but none of them are electric.
