    Re: Rocksmith

Played around with it some on my friends electric. Didn't want to get to far in on a guitar I wouldn't be playing full time. Definitely will have to do sound straight to my audio receiver once I get back. Lag was pretty noticeable, but didn't really hurt the gameplay.

I assume once you play through single notes that it will move onto chords?

      Re: Rocksmith

I was always going to pass this for two reasons:

      1) I don't have an electric guitar.

      2) The song library is not only lacking in quantity, but I would feel like I'm cheating myself out of how much I spent on Rock Band (over $200 worth in songs) if I can't somehow use any of that stuff again.

It would make me wait and hope RB came out with something similar where I could use my own guitar to play it. Anyway, I now realize that I can use my acoustic-electric for this game, so I might consider picking it up. Just thinking about that #2 thing.

              Bump.

I believe the new version comes out today.
My really good friend is a lead designer on it and his band is one of the bonus songs.

They're actually pretty good too (seen them live a couple times)

              So there ya go!

I'm gonna do my best to wait for a STEAM sale or possibly a Black Friday deal before I pick this up. I had lots of enjoyment from the first one, no doubt RS 2014 will deliver. Cant wait to try out "session mode"!

                  Re: Rocksmith

I really need an electric guitar. I love this game, but my acoustic-electric guitar doesn't always hit every note appropriately unless I pluck hard, and unfortunately the harder I pluck the more easily I can hear my guitar instead of the sound coming from the game.

My only issue with an otherwise very good first effort, and I'd love to pick this one up for that same reason.

I forgot I even owned this. Safe to say I do not know how to play the guitar yet. It seemed like the first one tried to teach you songs more than how to play guitar. So it ended up just being guitar hero with a real guitar to me.

Is the cable from the first game the same as the one in the new one? Just want to make sure I can get the disc only and I don't need another cable.

Can I import the songs from the first game and play them on the new game?

                            Hey Blzer,
Yes the cable is the same.

Yes you can import songs, i think like 5 or so dont import to the 2nd game though.
I also think its... like 10 bucks or something.

                            Not a bad deal

I am thinking of picking this up with a guitar.

Is it possible to actually learn how to play using this setup? I would love to learn how to play but I have never had lessons and would be starting from scratch.

Or should I look into lessons and use this as a tool.

I once took interest in guitar because I wanted to learn the song Tears in Heaven. Not one month later, my best friend died (ten years and four days from today) and the song became extremely important as I learned it then.

I took zero lessons, and basically just learned chord progressions from tablature of more basic songs. The first song I learned was Complicated by Avril Lavigne. I learned how to pick the main riff for Good Riddance at one point, then as I could start to barre entire frets I was soon feeling confident in playing Tears in Heaven.

Having said all that, I feel I've learned the "wrong way." I can't read sheet music, can't sightread tabs (chords only), and I wouldn't know how to compose music for the life of me. I also don't fingerpick with my thumb (I'll post videos later so you'll see what I mean), and I can't do it with a guitar pick either. This is fine for most acoustic songs, but if you want to do a solo with an electric guitar then forget about it!

I need Rocksmith to help fill these voids. It's basically teaching me everything I do incorrectly about playing guitar. Just like how I used to hold a fork wrong; yeah, I could still eat with it, but there are more appropriate ways of doing it as well. I personally think Rocksmith would help a novice more than it would help someone like me who is seasoned, because I have already gained habits.

The main thing Rocksmith can't do that any actual person giving you lessons though is giving you a pacing guide. There are some things that playing guitar for the first time bring you: pain and frustration. Your fingers will blister, but you'll have to fight through it. You'll try the same section of a song over and over, and you'll wonder if you'll ever get it.

If there's anything I can teach you, it's that you are persistent with it. Don't take any days off for a month. Devote yourself to one song at a time (hopefully simple), fight through it, and don't stop. Do it as you're laying down with your eyes closed. Sit or stand; listen to the song on your iPod when you're not playing. The struggle is so worth it when you can say you're actually playing guitar. Rocksmith can't encourage you, but the tools can certainly teach you.
