Re: Rebel Strike
I thought the reviews were probably being a bit too harsh about the 'platforming' sequences (don't know what else to call them). Unfortunately I was wrong. They are absolutely terrible. The cameras blow. Period. However, it's still a pretty good game. Nice FMV sequences from the movie (obviously using DiVX since they're the ones who ported it for NGC and Xbox. The flying sequences are pretty cool but it's still as hard as the last which is disappointing.
I've heard stuff regarding Factor 5 and how they're sick of Star Wars, etc... I think it kinda shows in their lack of polish with this title. I'm not slamming it but how the heck do you release a game with such poor 3rd person cameras? Oh wait, didn't Sony release Tomb Raider Dark Angels?Anyways...They won't be Nintendo exclusive for long and they'll be doing other stuff in the future. Hopefully it'll turn out better than this one.

Believe it or not, cameras are one of the HARDEST parts about doing computer graphics, especially interactive programs like games. Its a shame to hear that Rebel Strike lacks polish. Ill still give it a rental and see.NBA 2K18 ratings for several seasons generated from advanced analytics using the SportsCrunch system:

Re: Rebel Strike
Having worked in the industry for several years, I do understand that cameras haven't come as far along as say, graphics. Hell, AI hasn't developed quickly enough in my opinion either. Graphics and cameras never get enough love in my opinion. I find it odd that Mario 64 had very functional cameras but every game since from Nintendo has pretty much been ****e, excluding Zelda, which have had adequate cameras.
I think as far as 3rd person goes, Eternal Darkness has had the absolute best cameras I'v ever seen. I never felt like I wasn't aware of everything around me. I suspect Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes will play as good, if not better, than ED.Comment

Did you ever read the article by Steve Rabin in Game Programming Gems about how they came up with the cameras and controls for Mario 64? Pure genius. I always felt the best games for Nintendo systems were the first Mario games that came out right after the system was released (Super Mario World, Mario 64), ending with Gamecube and...Luigi's Mansion?!! For Gamecube, it was Rogue Leader, which is a damn good game after just nine months of development!NBA 2K18 ratings for several seasons generated from advanced analytics using the SportsCrunch system:
