The Last of Us sweeps the E3 2012 Game Critics Awards

You saw the Game Critics nominees for E3 2012 earlier this month, and you had a lot to say about them. I can't wait to hear what you'll have to say on the winners. While you're hatin', I'd like for you to keep in mind that I am on the Game Critics judges panel. You'll just have to imagine/pretend that I was on your side, picking your obvious choice. I'm sure I was.

The Last of Us swept the awards this year, taking five categories including Best of Show. It also took Best Original Game, Best Console Game, Best Action/Adventure Game, and Best Sound. They basically won it all. Nice work, Naughty Dog.

The Last of Us was also Destructoid's Game of the Show for E3 2012.

For those keeping score, PlayStation was the top publisher, taking seven awards. PS3 was also the leading platform this year, with 14 of the winning games.

Very debatable. Watch Dogs was the best game in show for me, but if I'm giving an award out, it's going to Last of Us mainly because I know it's coming out in the next 9-12 months, we know Watch Dogs is not. Either way, for most gamers it went Watch Dogs and Last of Us as 1/2 anyway, with either being the 1. So can't really argue with Last of Us winning the critics awards.

Yea while Watch Dogs looks fantastic and showed excellent animation fluidity it did lack some technical wows that The Last of Us presented. The way Ellie reacts in a dynamic realistic fashion is really a step up in our standard AI. Plus the AI in the enemies looks above and beyond anything we have faced yet. The way you can treat and react to them as a real person might is truly excellent for the video game industry.

My take was they both looked fantastic but The Last of Us showed technical impressiveness!

I think critics will wait on a hands on from the console versions of the game before getting themselves too hyped up.

Exactly. While Watch Dogs looks amazing, at this point it's nothing more than a highly polished demo.

How many times in generations past have we seen footage of a great game hitting the PC or the next generation of consoles, only to never actually have that game even be released. Does anyone remember This is Vegas? That looked awesome too...

We know 100% that The Last of Us is coming, and as such, I think it's perfectly fitting that it be the game receiving the awards. Hell, even if we did know when Watch Dogs was coming, I'd still say The Last of Us is just as deserving.

It's kinda moot really, one is here & now and coming soon... The other is just potential and not coming for a while.

I loved both and how they looked, but one is coming soon and imminent. The other, not so much.
