Re: The Last of Us (PS3)

I pre-ordered the Remastered Edition before E3 rolled around, for $59.99 (Digital Version)

I was bummed when I heard that it would retail for $49.99 in stores.

Yesterday, I received a message that I would be reimbursed $10.00 in playstation wallet, because of the change in the retail price.

Kudos to Sony/ND for doing that.

While I wasnt going to buy this since I played and finished the game on ps3, the delay to The Evil Within and the dead summer changed that. Overall, im looking forward to playing this game again.

When the DLC "Left Behind" was announced, we all pretty much thought the game was a prequel to TLOU story. We got a surprised that the story also added ************* to the mix. Anyone think maybe Naughty Dog might throw us a bone with the remastered release?

I haven't played the "Left Behind" DLC. So, I look forward to doing so with the Remastered Version. I know nothing of the plot as well.

Just an FYI regarding new features discovered for the remastered edition.....Hoping we get more!

There will be improvements in controls as well, as confirmed by Naughty Dog’s Game Director Bruce Straley. First of all, the studio has decided to use the DualShock 4′s triggers (L2-R2) instead of the “bumpers” (L1-R1) to aim & shoot by default, which Straley says feels great.

Good news for the left-handed fellows as well – the game’s original release on PlayStation 3 didn’t support southpaw controls, but this time Naughty Dog added it.

Re: The Last of Us (PS3)

GameInformer's preview of the remastered version with additional information

The first thing you’re likely to notice is the visual upgrade from 720p and 30 frames per second to 1080p and 60 frames per second (though you can lock things down at 30 FPS should you choose).

The game’s gritty, destroyed environments look crisper, which was even more pronounced in the side-by-side comparison. It looks spectacular.

Audio has gotten a significant improvement, with more options to customize your setup. For audiophiles playing with high-end stereo headsets, you’ll be able to change the azimuth (to tune alignment and timing for better synchronicity across the channels). You can also decide whether your center channel plays dialog, dialog and sound effects, or nothing at all.

For those that want to play with some additional insight, you'll be able to turn on commentary. Creative director Neil Druckmann and Troy Baker go behind the scenes as you're playing.

Performance has also improved, with instant load times thanks to streaming from the hard drive instead of the disc. The controls have been revamped to take advantage of the Dual Shock 4. The lightbar will signal health, with healthy blue scaling to orange when injured and red when critical.

The touchpad button is used to open Joel’s backpack now, but the biggest change is the speaker. The controller will now play the click of the flashlight and audio recordings you find around the world. No longer will you have to stay in the menu to listen to them. They’ll continue playing from your controller while you continue with the game.

Saves won’t carry over to the Remastered version, and this includes your progress in Factions mode. However, if you played the PS3 version of the multiplayer at all, you’ll get a supply point bonus to help get you started.

The Remastered version includes the Abandoned Territories and Reclaimed Territories map packs, as well as the Left Behind story DLC. If you purchased any of the DLC that’s not included in the Remastered version, that will carry over. You’ll just need to download it to your PS4. The season pass is no longer available, so if you want to purchase everything now, expect to spend over $70 (if you want every weapon, additional skill, and cosmetic hat). The weapons and skills will cost you $13.47 and most of the cosmetics can be purchased a la carte for $.99 or $1.99.

Sony told us that its considering more multiplayer DLC for The Last of Us, as there is an expectation there will be renewed interest with the PS4 release. There are no commitments yet, but the fact that it was even floated as a possibility (without solicitation) gives us the feeling we should expect to see it.

The Remastered edition will have its own trophy set, so if you are angling to add to your Platinum collection, you can double up on The Last of Us. The trophies are identical to the PS3 original.

The Last of Us Remastered Edition will arrive on July 29 for $49.99.

Sounds fantastic, some pretty nice upgrades and enhancements. I didn't play the PS3 version so I am pretty pumped to experience what nearly everyone has said to be an outstanding game.

I don't understand the games that use the lightbar to indicate health... the lightbar is not facing me when I'm holding the controller, so how would that be useful?

Game looks great, but I certainly hope the guy applied a sharpening mask on those screenshots, because as good as it looks the edges are kind of overrefined.

I know these are JPEG's and aren't how they'd appear on my TV when I play it on my [future] PS4, but I'm expecting to get the remastered version when I get the new console and hope that ND's investment was well worth it in the end!

Quite a few copies have been selling on ebay if anyone wanted an early copy. Although, they've been selling at 60-65 which is a bit more than retail. I would have snagged one myself, but timing is off as I'll be away most of the week.

Still on the fence about getting this. Not having a ps3 forced me to watch the cutscenes on youtube (story is better than most movies). Not sure if I wanna drop $50 on something that I've already seen but not 'experienced'. However if there is any game that forces me to, it's this one.

I watched an entire play through of the game too, so I can definitely feel where you're coming from. I still want to play it, though. Plus, the Left Behind expansion will be totally new to me, so that gives me something extra to look forward to.

As someone who had the PS3 game, I can say with no hesitation, I played the Multiplayer more than the story. About 100 hours more.

Not saying that the single player is bad, far from it. Top 3 experience last generation. Multiplayer was amazing though.
