1st person shooters , Struggling? This may be why?

You may be experiencing the same thing I' am, so I wanted to share this with you.

I was recently struggling with COD black Ops, and now with MW3 just holding a 1.4 kD.

I felt my internet was the reason, and I needed to upgrade, but I have broadband, and I even purchased the boost, and I was still struggling.

Three nights ago while I was playing on my new (3 months) 42" Vizio TV it dawned on me that all of the struggles started when I got the TV.

Prior to that I was doing extremely well online. I would always finished in the top 3 with no problems. most of the times #1.

I then decided to switch my Vizio back to my Phillips, and see if that was the case? Well let me say my KD in just a few hours of playing shot up from a 1.41 to a 1.47, and I'm destroying online. My controls feel tight, precise, and accurate again.

I put two days into this and I'm playing at the level I know I'm capable of playing. I'm doing solid again, and I'm very pleased. I' am really mowing people down like I was prior to buying the Vizio TV.

Now before anyone states that maybe I did not disable a certain feature or enable a certain feature to remove TV lag otherwise known as the rubber band effect. I did what was needed on the TV to remove the TV lag. There was a feature called Game Mode. It removed the lag, but in the end the TV didnt allow for me to be as precise as I was on my two prior TVs. I did not notice it right away because once gamemode was on it felt so much better than it did when it was off, so I felt it would be the same as my prior TVs.

I wsa wrong, and since I loved how the Vizio looked that I stayed with it, but the truth is this TV is not for gaming. Well the one I purchased.

It even hampered me on MLB the show. It was much more difficult for me to hit the ball. When prior to it I had no problems. I was just so in loved with the picture qualtiy and 3D this TV offered that I wanted to make it work. Well I finally woke up.

I suggest before blaming your internet or the servers ( Like someone I know ) It may be your TV.

Any questions please feel free to ask.

I have a 120hz LG 32" lcd and it has a feature called trumotion to smooth out the picture. I find though when playing games such as shooters and sports games the aiming crosshairs, ball or puck will blur so I turn it off and it clears up the problem. My tv has never had any delay problems just visual side effects from the trumotion feature. Movies are fine with trumotion because with it off it is way to jittery so I use it for that. I know alot say you get a soap opera effect with such a feature which is true probably with newer tvs but on mine it looks normal and I have had my tv for about 4 1/2years.

It is just amazing how my results have changed dramatically from the Vizo set back to my Phillips.

It is a great TV for everything else, but for gaming I will pass.

My only guess is the Philips has a faster display speed...or you just work better with it's picture.

My wife games on vizios and has no problems, and ALL she plays is COD (Black ops and MW3).

My old Samsung LCD had noticeable input lag. It would affect my performance in The Show, Rock Band, and racing games. It probably affected my one-on-one matches in COD, but I tried to not use that as an excuse whenever possible.

However, I do think I'm better now with my new Samsung plasma. I'm just as ruthless, so my K/D remains under 1.00 (like I care anyway lol), But I can just tell when firing, sprinting, crouching, aiming down the sight, etc. is much quicker than it once had been.

Also, no BS... two other things that are good crutches are playing on an HDTV (or at least a widescreen monitor, which is something I'm guessing that all of us have either one or the other these days) and 7-channel surround sound. Just knowing where somebody is shooting from makes a world of difference, especially when there aren't visual on-screen aids that tell you where.

I'm using a 55" Sammy that's about three years old. I was having problems at first until I switched to Game Mode and it's been fine. Rock Band and everything works great. I also have a 7.1 system and yes, that really does help localize enemies in shooters (though good headsets work great too).

I went from a 60 inch DLP to a Panasonic plasma and it made a night and day difference for me. Not only is the picture incredible but my reaction time seems to be twice what it was.

You guys may be right. I use the VGA input on my LCD Vizio and while I know I need to upgrade TVs, this one has done me alright so far.

The biggest difference I noticed was in knife kills in COD. Seems like I would round a corner and the other guy would kill me before I saw him. Once I switched to plasma I had the upperhand.

Snipers should also see a boast. I started shooting people on the run a lot better than ever before. It's real and they explain it in the Plasma vs. LCD thread.

I used to be terrible at shooters. Not even a over 1.0. I have been playing on a 23 inch monitor and wear a headset now when I play and I've had it at 1.5 but its at a 1.3 right now.

I don't know what it is, but I react faster and also with how clear my monitor is I can see much farther and crisper without scoping.

Yes I agree it must be the repsonse time. I'm also not saying all vizio's maybe it is the model I purchased or maybe it is just that TV.

The video quailty on that Vizio hands down is better than the phillips, and the phillips looks great.

The 3d effect looks awesome on it also, just for some reason the controls were not as tight as the Phillips or my Samsung

Damn homie you must be going thorugh the rubber band effect. Is you gun swaying a bit when you play?

one thing i'm not understanding is that you are describing exactly what tv lag is, but calling it the "rubber band effect" and dismissing tv lag? They are synonymous.

My 46" Sony Bravia definitely had some lag when I first started playing on it.

I remember popping in The Show and being late on every single swing no matter what I would do.

Flipped it to Game Mode, and it's been a dream ever since.
