Re: Flight Simulator Discussion
I used to be really into MS Flight Simulator back when MSFS 2002 came out. Honestly believe the reason I became an airline pilot is because of it. I don't play any MSFS anymore but I play DCS A-10 and Rise of Flight on occasion but I really don't have enough time to really sit down and study the manuals anymore. I have found if I take any breaks from DCS A-10 I have to relearn the damn thing again.Comment

Haha....that's crazy that even a pilot has to use the manuals to refresh himself on flying......even though it's a military flight sim, you'd think it would come naturally.
Nice to know that even the pros need a little help!

Re: Flight Simulator Discussion
While I love flight sims....I've grown tired of the modern era jet flight sims.
Until they come out with a BoB type WWII era flight sim, with a full dynamic campaign....I'm staying out of flight sims.
Considering I've built a hybrid racing/flight sim cockpit(Lexus car seat.....nose cone cockpit.....42 inch monitor...side consoles for shifters/flight sticks....and I swap out my ECCI racing controls for the HOTAS Warthog flight system and CH Pro pedals for flight sims)......that's saying a lot for how much I'm tired of modern jet fighters.
That and I was disappointed with Cliffs of Dover..
Give me back my Spitfires and Mustangs!!!

Its not just planes (high altitude bombers, dive bombers, escort fighters) but also has carriers that you can maneuver for your team (believe its 3 sides), dropping off troops to take towns and also ground vehicles like tanks.Aaron

I remember when I was younger I used to fly FS 98 with him and we would navigate using VORs and big paper airway maps to make transatlantic flights. Ah, the simpler days...
Now, I just punch all the data into my handy-dandy FMC (or FMS) in FSX.
I've never really been able to get into the VFR aspect of FSX, unfortunately. I enjoy flying the heavy metal around, but I don't have a lot of desire to fly VFR flights in smaller aircraft. Perhaps it would help if I purchased some scenery payware, but I don't know if my laptop could handle it or not.
For me, joining a virtual airline helped to jumpstart my interest in flight-simming, though. It gives each flight a sort of a purpose (even if it is only imaginary).Last edited by superjames1992; 01-08-2012, 02:41 AM.Comment
