Funny you mentioned this. Just dusted off my BG2 a while ago. I still haven't beat that damn game.....almost 10 years later. Although I am on the last disc. Give me another 5 years it'll be finished.

As for Skyrim. Had it since release. Haven't played it much over the last month. I still put Morrowind as my GOAT. First in the series I played. First I loved and first I still have very fond memories of. Loved it so much I've bought it at least 3 times and I still have it for PC and original Xbox. With the Morrowind 2011 mod, it has renewed my interest in the game.

Still MVP 2005 for me. I probably have over 500 hours in that game.

Non-sports I still have to say The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time.

I can't compare it to previous generation games, but when I compare it to this generation, I'd take the two Fallouts, the two Mass Effects and the new Zelda over it. There are a few other games I'd put on par with it as well.

And Head Coach 09. Best sports game ever made.

Great game, but nothing tops the Mass Effect series for me.

I voted "no", but it wasn't an easy decision. In the end, I'd probably say Chrono Trigger and Grim Fandango edge it. I'd put it right alongside ME2, Uncharted, and Half Life 2, which is pretty decent company.

There are so many games that I loved for different reasons that I cannot pick one.

Skyrim for what it offers is definitely one of the games of all times that gave you your moneys worth.

There are a few games I would love to see remasted into HD.

Some sports games also. Like madden 08 , NFL2k5 and MVP 05.

To me Skyrim is what the Dragon Age series SUPPOSE TO have been.

Hate Mass Effect 1, but love Mass Effect 2.
Wing Commander IV was easily a top 5 game of mine. I've had Skyrim for a few weeks but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

I pretty much did every quest I could, so my group was pretty damn powerful by the end of the game. I had a dual wielding barbarian (I created), the evil dwarf fighter (can't remember his name), Viconia, Edmond, Jan, and an Ranger Archer that I created. 2 high level mages equals instant death to anything.

I still need to beat Throne of Baal, though. I recommend doing the first level of Watcher's Keep if you have Throne of Baal. There are some nice things in their like the quiver of plentiful (endless bolts for crossbows) and the equivalent for the arrows. Makes the game more enjoyable not having to micro manage ammo.

The Elder Scroll series needs to fix some of the combat. Spell casting is done well, but the physical combat (swords, maces, and axes) just seem to feel strange to me. If this could have been done a little bit better, it very well could be the best game. I just feel like I am not really sure if I am making contact when swinging my sword. Can't really describe it, but it doesn't feel natural to me.

The new kill animations are a nice touch.

Yes, I agree. It is very satisfying to see the death blows.

Re: Skyrim: best game ever made?

When I first started playing the game I thought it might be the best I had ever played. I played the hell out of Skyrim for the first month. Then I got about 80 hours in and things began to get stale. I've had a ton of trouble playing it for more than 15 minutes lately.

Originally I had this as my GOTY, but now that I look back I enjoyed Arkham City and Dark Souls a little bit more than Skyrim. So, there is no way that this game is the greatest of all time for me. I'd probably go with Arkham City or Mass Effect 2 as my GOAT, with a little love for Fallout 3/NV as well. But I didn't start getting into non-sports titles until this gen.

Still Skyrim is pretty amazing, it's just little things that bother me and take away from my experience.

81 hours is a long time for a single player game. The sheer length of the game and enormity of the area will work against some people as they get bored of it. The Witcher 2 was far shorter than this and not even a 10th of the size of Skyrim, but the story telling and pace of the game worked well and provided playtime that seemed reasonable, but didn't border on too lengthy.
