    Railroad Tycoon 1/2/3

We need a discussion thread for these awesome games.

I never played RRT, but RRT 2 and RRT 3 are amazing games. I finally figured out a way to get RRT 2 installed on my Windows 7 64 bit machine and am excited!

As crazy as this sounds, I've never played the RR Tycoon games.

I did run across some older PC games, though..

Command and Conquer: The Covert Operations
    Sid Meiers: Civil War
    The Sims

I usually like games like RR Tycoon. One of my favorite PS1 games was Hospital. I've been considering downloading it from PSN.

I preferred transport tycoon and locomotion (spiritual successor to tt).

I have rrt 2 and 3 I think (somewhere), but never touch them.

I could never get into Sid Meier's Railroads. It seems too simplified for me.

I like RRT 2 and 3 for different reasons. RRT 2's economy is very simplified and requires more micromanagement, but it is just FUN!

RRT 3's economy is much more complex and more realistic. The game requires less micromanagement, which is kind of nice, but can make things somewhat boring. Nevertheless, it makes up for it with some of the features like where you can lock the camera on a train and watch it rolls on the rails!

              Awesome games.

The unofficial 1.06 patch for RRT3 (and maps that make use of it) really add additional life to it.

Rollercoaster Tycoon was the best out of them all, in my opinion.

Yeah, I downloaded RRT3 off of Steam a couple weeks ago. I have a copy at home, but my dad plays it a lot and I wanted to be able to play at college.

I also have RRT 2: TSC on my computer, even though it doesn't work like it should on my copy of Windows 7. I had to install it on my old Windows Vista laptop and transfer it over to my Windows 7 laptop via a flash drive. Now, to start the game, I have to actually go into the game's file and start the .exe file to get it running. It's a bit ridiculous, but it works!

I can't get the original RRT 2 to work, though. For some reason, when I tried it, my old laptop couldn't read the disk, so I'm not sure what's up with that. I will have to give it another go whenever I get back home soon.

Had to bite on that deal off of steam. I haven't had a chance to play yet but I'm definitely going to download it and play soon.

That's why they call those things in the start menu and on the desktop shortcuts, it saves you from having to browse into the program directory manually. That's all a shortcut does, start whatever exe file they happen to point to.

You can create your own shortcut to the exe so that you don't have to go hunting for it every time you want to run the game.

                        Re: Railroad Tycoon 1/2/3

I just started playing RRT3 over the last couple days for the first time in several years. It's amazing I've been playing these Railroad Tycoon games since 1999, or for the last 17 years.

I'll probably pop back onto RRT2 again soon, as well. It's been a long time since I've played either game, so I think I'm going to try to beat both campaigns again. I've played and beaten the first two campaigns in RRT3 over the last couple days. It's interesting how old games can be so refreshing and fun after you've taken a break from them for a long time.

I've got both games on Steam now, too, so they play fine without any quirks, even with Windows 10.
