    Re: Assassin's Creed III

I was not really going to get this as I am not a big AC fan. Loved the first and appreciated the others. I was nearly going to get NFS Most Wanted but the impressions on that thread are holding me back.

Took a safe punt on this with a week full trade in policy to protect me. Wow, this is the best AC for me since the very first one. The game world is fantastic! But the big win is the combat. This was the point of greatest contention for me and it has deviated enough from the previous entries to make it satisfying, at least for my liking. The comparisons are being made against Batman Arkham City and no, the combat in AC III is not so much like Arkham City.

I think it is kind of more like The Amazing Spiderman because the moves are very fluid and fast whereas Arkham is more heavy and concussive. I think the combat as it is suits this title well. It feels free and nowhere near as scripted/choreographed as the past titles. AC III seems to be almost akin to more typical action hack n slash games that are easy to pick and play but back dropped by an incredibly impressive world and story.

I love the volume of soldiers you can attack. There are heaps. Fortunately the introduction of more sophisticated firearms doesn't degenerate the game to the ranks of a regular tps title. The gun controls have been handled well to keep this from turning into a shooter.

Again, I am literally stunned so far by how good this experience is. The game world itself is testament to the sheer visceral power gaming provides as a valid form of contemporary entertainment. I was pretty sure I was going to trade it back in but not now that I have spent time playing it. What a freakin impressive job the devs did on this one. Hats off...and gloves (for those who prefer to make a gesture with their gloves instead of their hats or maybe they dont have a hat but they do have gloves in which case it all works out for the best anyway.)

I thinking about picking this up... But I haven't played AC I & II, do I need to play those before playing AC III? (Cuz I feel I will be lost story wise)

I would play the previous games to enjoy the overall story arc. Some people were turned off by the first AC, but I really like this franchise.

Hey guys, honest question for any of you that have both AC3 and Dishonored.

I am returning one of these for Halo 4 (I used the target buy 2 get 1 free). I am only going to have time for 1 single player title. Which do you feel is the better of the two and worth keeping AC3 or Dishonored?

I know this is the AC3 thread but I have faith the guys who have both will give me a unbiased assessment.

Trust me bro, after playing both games AC3 would be the best bet for the money. Game has greater depth and lot that you can do throughout the game. I thoroughly enjoy that game over Dishonored.

Yes, but once it's over it gets better, much better. If anything the 5-hour tutorial was more of a prologue for Conor.

I think the part that made me so impatient was knowing that the grind and side quest don't open up until sequence 6. So upgrading and exploring was useless until then. It almost feels like sequence 6 is still a tutorial of what Conor can do.

The new fight system takes a little bit to get used to. The most helpless feeling in the game is when a line of red coats are about to fire their muskets and you're dealing the final blow to the only human shield around.

Is there a lock on system? I might have missed it.

                            Just a suggestion?

I am only through sequence 4, but I will say this...while I am a huge fan of Dishonored and thought it was a breath of fresh air, it is really a rental type game. It is short, even if you take the most difficult and complicated path. If you run through it....it is frighteningly short. Thus, bang for your buck would say go with ACIII. Of course, I am not that far into ACIII and I can definitively say that Dishonored is a great game.

Having never played any of the AC series, I got real interested because of the timeline and storyline. Preorderd it at Bestbuy and went to pick it up. Talked to one of the sales geeks about the other games in the series and he said that 1 & 2 was a must for the background story. So I picked up the first two used and am in the process of going through the first one at the moment.

Its killing me seeing all the impressions here on the 3rd and not being able to get into it.
