Future of Uncharted Series

Can anyone speculate what Sony can do with the future of the Uncharted series at this point? I played 2 and 3 having the greatest time, and I'd hate to see it go to nothing. The ending to 3 left me feeling like they were wrapping it up.

Naughty Dog is currently working on The Last of Us. From what I've seen I'm way more excited for it than I would be for UC4.

I think we've likely seen the last of the Naughty Dog developed Uncharted, but they possibly could move principle development to Santa Monica. It wouldn't shock me if we'd seen the last of Uncharted, especially on home consoles, but the series seems too popular to let it die.

Naughty Dog likes to work on one franchise per console generation. The Last of Us kind of pokes at that a bit, and doing another game might be a kind of consolation for extending Uncharted onto PS4, but odds are still better for Naughty Dog not doing another Uncharted than another coming down the line.

I think we will see more Uncharted on the Vita. Also Nathan Drake will be in All Stars.

Don't you think that a company that prides themselves on the storytelling craft would more than likely END the story first?

They wouldn't end the story because they wouldn't want to kill the franchise. I didn't say there wouldn't be another Uncharted, just that Naughty Dog wouldn't be developing another.

Again, and maybe I'm just an idiot, but why do you think that Naughty Dog won't be developing the next installment?

More just a feeling I bet. Naughty Dog likes to keep moving to new IP and not just sit on older stuff (I bet making new sequels all the time gets boring to some extent).

Plus they run out of stellar ideas for story and whatnot, so it's better to go to a new game world.

His thought is that they'll transition it to another company, which they did with the PS Vita version all ready. Naughty Dog probably wants to keep innovating and coming up with new and crazy ideas, and the UC world kinda limits them a bit with that.

All just my opinions.

Not sure how that statement is misinterpreted. It's well known based on history (Playstation - Crash Bandicoot, PS2 - Jak and Daxter, PS3 - Uncharted) and they said it specifically when there were rumors/hope they might be resurrecting the Jak franchise last year in the wake of the HD rerelease talk.

The Last of Us kind of goes against that, like I said, but it might be the feeling they've done enough with Uncharted or it could be that Sony encouraged them to do something new and postpone a fourth Uncharted game for the PS4 launch.

No way this series is done. Money talks and Uncharted makes money. Until the series stops making money I will be expecting UC4 on my PS3 in November 2013.

Nobody should think The Last of Us is delaying anything either. They took half the Uncharted team from UC2 and moved them to that game. There are two separate teams.

Either way UC3 was fun but the most disappointing of the series. The story wasn't as good and it was too scripted. You couldn't go more than 5 minutes without a story clip interrupting anything and I feel they have gotten too linear with the gameplay. I don't want anything like a true open world GTA type of game but I do think they need to open up some areas and allow for a little more exploration. As long as they keep making this series I will keep buying it.
