Nobody should think The Last of Us is delaying anything either. They took half the Uncharted team from UC2 and moved them to that game. There are two separate teams.

Either way UC3 was fun but the most disappointing of the series. The story wasn't as good and it was too scripted. You couldn't go more than 5 minutes without a story clip interrupting anything and I feel they have gotten too linear with the gameplay. I don't want anything like a true open world GTA type of game but I do think they need to open up some areas and allow for a little more exploration. As long as they keep making this series I will keep buying it.
I see where you're coming from, no doubt. And agree to an extent...

But I thought the pacing of UC3 was the best of the series. Just when I thought the gunplay was about to be too over the top, the war would end and the story would advance. This felt wonderful to me.

The other 2 (UC especially) was too gun heavy at times. There were moments during both where I actually wished a clip would happen sooner (especially in UC). UC3 never made me feel this way.

I'd like for the wave killing to diminish it's presence even more moving forward. But, UC3 was really well balanced in this area IMO.

I think i'm going to bump up a old thread for the first time ever. I am replaying the drake collection so that's got me thinking what's next for the series or is it just time to ride off in the sunset ? The rumors are someone is working on uncharted 5 which I assume wont be naughty dog. Would the way uncharted works even work today with everything being so open world crazy ?

I think it's best to let the franchise rest now. The 4th game was great, but the formula is old.

It's a playstation exclusive though and Uncharted does fill the platforming single player niche. I can see a soft reboot with Drakes daughter picking up his adventures down the line. I'd be down with that, too. The formula isn't bad it's just old. That doesn't mean it isn't fun or enjoyable.

It's like the Fast and Furious movies or Transformers. I know the formula, still, it's a fun 2.5 hours. I dont need them to be something they're not. If I want to watch something deep or nuanced, or just "different" I know where to find those movies. I've never been a fan if change for the sake of change.

The new San Diego team (not to be confused with Sony San Diego who develops MLB The Show) is developing the next Uncharted game. Not sure if it will be Uncharted 5 or a spin off like Lost Legacy was. Personally, I would prefer Lost Legacy 2 before Uncharted 5 as im personally sick and tired of Drake and company. Enough is enough with them.

I would say that this would be one of the earlier exclusives for PlayStation 5 simply because the majority of the assets are already in place and that it would probably be a linear game which wouldn't take longer than 2-3 years and the game is already said to be in development.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was a teaser trailer at E3 2020.

I thought the Uncharted series was done for good. This is legit? If so, I'm all for a new game. I think they kind of wrapped up things pretty well for Drake and crew, so another Lost Legacy would be fine by me because I enjoyed that a lot. Another spinoff all together is cool too.

Here are a few article that sums up the uncharted rumors pretty well nothing official yet that I know of

A former animator at Naughty Dog and Rockstar Games has joined the team at Sony new San Diego studio, which has yet to be formally revealed.

                  Re: Future of Uncharted Series

In the end Uncharted just makes to much $ for them not to at least release 1 more game. Its possible it might not work with a new studio and without drake if your Sony you have to atleast try.

Here are the only options as far as I can tell

Nathan's Daughter - With the main cast still around in smaller roles

Nathan's Brother - With Sully still by his side

Chole - Build on the lost legacy

Young Sully - A prequel of some sorts when he was In his prime

Someone New - With no ties to the Drakes
Retro Redemption - Starting over with a oldschool PowerBone Offense

If it was Chloe it would be a hard pass for me. I accept the flaws of the Uncharted games, but I enjoyed them. I've never liked Chloe as a character so it stopped me from enjoying Lost Legacy.

I think there's definitely room for games like Uncharted. Yes, a lot of people love open world games, but the main things that open world games lack that Uncharted has is those big action scenes (maneuvering around a burning building that's falling apart, being dragged my a motorcycle, trying to climb up a derailed train that's hanging off of the side of a mountain, etc.). You don't see those in open world games (not like they are in Uncharted anyway).

I can see the pros and cons of both but I'm much more of a linear guy myself. I prefer a good story and big action scenes over the openness of an open world simply because open worlds are almost too distracting at times. I so like open world games too but personally I rarely ever finish them because there's so much fluff to do. There are some games that are better at having good meaningful side missions than others (Sleeping Dogs comes to mind) but most of them start dragging and feeling redundant to me after awhile and I get bored of them.

With all of that said, I'm not sure what I'd think about an UC5. I would almost lean towards introducing a whole new cast of characters because I feel like Drake's story has been told. If Naughty Dog isn't the developer then I'll probably be a little less excited but Sony doesn't really mess around with exclusives so I'm sure they'll bring their A game.

                        Re: Future of Uncharted Series

God of War 4 was fantastic so I think a game can still come back for more, change some things and be great.

I think you can still have Drake and a new sidekick. A few things that I might like seeing are more dangers in platforming and perhaps some RPG skills. I definitely want an offline, linear story like GOW4. You can still roam a bit but there is clear direction. That game had RPG stuff too.

For me the platforming in Uncharted felt like a chore at times because there was no threat. And there were too many cut scenes at times. The game needs a good balance.

As long as it has a good story, some cool combat in both stealth and large open area battles I will be buying.

The only way I would continue to follow the series without Nathan in the lead role is to have him be the new Sully and his daughter be the new lead.

Without a Drake in the lead role then it isn't Uncharted to me.

I think there is a future eventually for this franchise. Set up perfectly for the next generation of Drakes.

I had never owned a Playstation before the PS4, but this quickly became my favorite video game series of all-time. I'm sure I would love a new Uncharted game; they're simply awesome games to play. And I'm sure I'd even get on board with a new one that follows the Drake family again. However, I thought they ended Uncharted 4 so perfectly that I almost don't want to see it messed with.

I think (could be wrong) that uncharted appeals to the casual gamer a little more then the hardcore one. With the fact that its not open world, doesn't take 50 hours to complete and has the movie type big pieces mixed with simple gameplay. If they release a 5th game and its not made by naughty dog, you don't play as Nathan and its still not open world. It seems like that would be 3 major strikes against it right off the bat. Its going to be very tricky for them to balance using the same formula that some will think is dated and stale or mix changing it up to much and making their hardcore fans made.
