Sony: "No definitive plans" for the future of Resistance

Sony: “No Definitive Plans” to Continue Resistance

Sony: “No Definitive Plans” to Continue Resistance
    by Colin Moriarty
    June 25, 2012

Resistance has always found itself in a tenuous position, encapsulated by Insomniac’s abandonment of its own series. And now, according to the UK version of the Official PlayStation Magazine, Sony itself isn’t sure how the franchise will proceed.

OPMUK asked Sony’s Daniel Brooke about the future of the series, to which he answered: "the Resistance Franchise has been exciting to work on, but as for the future we have no definitive plans.”

This isn’t exactly surprising; Burning Skies may have been a fine example of a shooter on Vita, but its inability to tell a story or make you care about the characters or events was decidedly un-Resistance. But it’s truly a shame that we may never see more Resistance, considering how polished and well-executed Resistance 3 was.
It seems like this franchise is dead.

Most likely, but at least it went out with a hell of a bang. Resistance 3 is a vastly underappreciated and unnoticed game. It was gorgeous, with great gameplay and a superb setting and feel. By far their best effort IMO and the only game of the three on PS3 that I truly enjoyed all the way through.

It's probably better to let it die rather than foist it onto some other developer just because it was moderately successful (Resistance was never the great blockbuster it probably should have been, 3 barely broke a million). Any developer that could create a decent Resistance 4 I would much rather see do an original game they are passionate about making.

For someone who didnt really play shooters till this generation I loved resistance and like Dalewood said its a shame that 3 went as unnoticed as it should have. Looking back on it I bet the regret having so many great games come out toward the end of last year. I fell like it got forget about with the games out around the same time like Batman, Uncharted, C.O.D, Battlefield etc. I just went back and played resistance 2 and still enjoyed it and im gonna play through 3 agian with the move sharpshooter next.

Sad. This was one of the few FPS that offered something a different than the whack-a-mole military shooters. It will be back some day but I think they need some time to figure out whats next.

A new resistance game set during the Iraq/Afgan wars would be pretty crazy......

I couldn't get into the first, skipped the second, but finished the third.. decent concept, but the first game hurt expectations from a lot of people. I was hesitant to try 3, but I liked it.

I think its the other way around, everywhere you read, Resistance 2 did a lot of damage to this franchise. If this franchise is to continue, a complete reboot needs to happen with one main character that people can grow attached to. Insomniac screwed up by also trying to copy COD, which was the same mistake that was made with Socom 4.
