Re: Need for Speed Most Wanted

My post from the racing section of the forums:

If this counts as a sports title, this may be my sports GOTY. I haven't had this much fun with a racer in YEARS! Graphics, gameplay, everything is fantastic. And Criterion deserves a damn award for their sound design. The cars, the soundtrack... and the way the way everything echoes as you drive through a tunnel... just absolutely incredible.

What an awesome experience and game.

I played the 60 minute demo (basically an hour rental) thanks to PS Plus. It was fun; obviously I didn't get too in-depth because of the time limit. I played around with about 10 different vehicles and it was a nice assortment. The setting of this game seemed excellent, as were the graphics, and I'd say the gameplay was a mix of simulation and arcade.

I haven't played a NFS game since Underground and its sequel, so the lack of customization is a disappointment. I got into both of those games and that's probably what I would prefer to play, although I haven't gotten into any racing games in quite a while so I have no real recent comparisons to make on-hand.

For my money the customization aspects of NFSU meant almost unlimited replayability. I'm not so sure that exists in a game of this sort, so I'll probably get it at discount in the future, but I'm still looking for that next great customizable (but realistic) game in the vein of Underground.
