So, that's my background, here's my take on kdr: you should really always be positive. There I said it. You owe it to yourself if no one else. Look, throwing yourself into the meat of the battle so you can go 6-16, throw a bunch of medpacks, cap a bunch of flags, feel like a team player, and maybe even finish top five or ten, is not inherently superior to a round where you're patient, resourceful, know your limits, and go something like 7-4, 4-0, or 6-1. Talking about doing things other than killing, yes, of course, do all the little things, do everything you can, be the ultimate grunt, PTFO, but work to go 6-3 or 10-8 while you're doing that.

There's no excuse for those 3-18 and 6-22 type rounds. Slow down. Play smarter. Know your skill-set. FLANK MORE. Go 5-4. Go 7-5. Go 8-6. Work from there. 11-8 and 12-7 are around the corner. Next thing you know you'll put up a 17-4 followed by a 22-6 and you'll wonder what the hell you were talking about saying kdr didn't matter.
That's a great post! I see both side of the debate, unfortunately I fall into that category you refer to as "trash". (no offense taken, I know I'm trash ).

My k/d is .38 and I have far to many matches where I go 9-19 or 7-14 and I really don't score that many points. Normally in the 2500 to 4500 range. I'm still a noob to the game and learning the ins and outs and trying to get better there. Hell I only figured out last night that you could spot enemies and earn points that way.

I do my best to play the objective as much as possible but a lot of times I find myself being overwhelmed because I don't know the maps that well, don't use good routes / good cover and end up dying a lot. Really like the part of your post that says "slow down", I constantly remind myself of this but it seems continually go back to bad habits.

Not sure where I'm going with this post but it seems like I need to get a PS4 so I can learn a thing or two because there's never anyone on XB1 playing from OS.

If anyone really wants a good kdr they could just play vehicles and nothing else. But that's no fun, got to have variety.

It seems I'm the small majority who does not like the ace 52. But that's what makes this game beautiful in my eyes, unlike CODs of the past. There's not that 1 weapon that everyone uses because it's much better than everything else.

Ace is the only carbine with the AK5C that is not useless on range. Ace by the damage model and AK by its accuracy and low rpm.

I love the AK5C. Way too good to be a start up gun. I also love the G36C even though statistically its one of the worst carbines. It just "feels" and looks good.

I started using the Ace 52 more last night, and really liked what I seen. I needed just a bit more range, and this carbine filled the bill quite nicely.

The only drawback I noticed was that during closer range engagements against faster firing weapons it was a bit more difficult to win those battles.

Overall though,I think I'm going to stick with it and get my unlocks for it...besides,I have my fallback weapons in my ACW and M-Tar

I've seen this exact change with RG. There was a paradigm shift in RG's gameplay that I've seen take place over the last few weeks. I notice when he's patient and methodical he'll go positive.

Sorry for using you as an example RG, but his description brought you to mind.
No problem, Bolt. That sums up my play style to a "T". lol

I don't have the reflexes, awareness, etc... to play like John Rambo or a "Man of Fire" like I see so many do. That's my problem and has kept me from playing online FPS games. As we were talking about the other night... my sensitivity is set so low, that I can't make those quick turnarounds when I'm getting lit up. Having it that low does help me with accuracy and not spraying bullets everywhere though. lol And, I just got to cut down on the stupid deaths.

I'm probably never going to be a 20+ kill/rd guy on a consistent basis like so many are that we run with in our group, but I try to play my class like it's supposed to be played (Engineer). Think my best kill count was a 20/20 one night with the group. I may only average 8-10 kills, but you can count on me disabling/destroying any land/air/sea vehicles that are keeping us from taking/defending an objective. As long as after the round, we get a "W" & I put up some points & contributed... I happy. Now that is not to say, that I don't go into each round looking to put up a positive K/D. I would love to be positive K/D after every round and put up a good score. Something I keep working on every time we play. I'm getting better.

So many ways in this game to help your team win and score points. Everyone should strive to go positive K/D, but don't get discouraged or let anyone put you down if you don't. Play your class & help the team get that "W". The K/D ratio will improve with time played.

*On the subject of Marino last night.... I hopped in party chat last night while you guys were on Locker. I got thrown on the other team and it was close to the end of the round. I was trying to place the voices with the names. Was having trouble with "one" voice in particular. lol

Let's just say, that from here on out, Marino has a new nickname: "Peter Brady"! Anyone who watched the Brady Bunch back in the day... just remember the episode where Peter's voice was changing. I was going to bring it up last night, but Marino did one of his "ninja" drops before I could.

Hm...I might experiment with taking the sensitivity down just one more notch and see how I do. I'll sacrifice just a touch of defensive speed for better aiming and leading.

All this talk about K/D lacks proper context.

You got guys who are the frontline (shoot first ask questions later) - people who lead the attack, take on the majority of bullets, and who the heavily guarded objectives. Unfortunately that also makes them cannon fodder. If you typically get more assists than kills, you probably fall in this category.

Then you got guys who hang back and support - snipe, provide suppression fire, fly the choppers, who wait for folks in the first group to rush in and use them to force enemies to reveal their position. Guys who use their maps a lot and wait for people to be spotted. They'll also sometimes flank and/or go after objectives that are not defended that well.

Im not saying one is better than the other - imo you need both in order to win. But the K/D of the front line guys are always going to be lower than the patient "hang back-support" guys. So its not really fair to use it as your primary performance record. This is a team based game - the only metric that matters is the W/L ratio.
