    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater

So my little brother bought a Nintendo 64 off EBay a few weeks ago. As such, I decided to let him use some of my old games and you know what? Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is still a ton of fun. In lieu of NBA2K12, when I go home to see my fam, we've been playing the heck out of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and now Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (before switching over to PS2 for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3). It's beginning to feel like 2001 all over again.

To make this topic a little more timely, I found out there was an HD release today on XBox Live and PSN that combines the first two Tony Hawks. After my little run lately, I might have to check it out. I'll just say, if you've got a 64 lying around (or some spare XBox points), I think it'd be worth giving these games another go around.

The first one for dreamcast was the only one I truly loved the crap out of. I will probably get it, just because of how much I liked the first one, I hope it's a lot like the old DC release.

Damn heard there was no splitscreen action, would have loved to play this game with my brother just like the old days.

I'm probably going to get the HD version, but despite its release on 360, it is still "in development" for the PC and PS3. WTF is that? Either make the game multi-platform and release it as such or don't.

It's part of the Summer of Arcade so it needed to be a timed XBLA exclusive.

I'm waiting for the PC version.

And the no splitscreen really sucks...didn't know about that.

                  Re: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater

I purchased the Tony Hawk HD off XBox Live and I'm actually having a lot of fun. The game is comprised of seven levels from the first two Tony Hawk Pro Skaters. They are:
                  Spoiler

There are a handful of skaters from the original Tony Hawk games (Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Eric Kosten, Andrew Reynolds) and an additional selection of new skaters (Riley Hawk, Travis Peralta's wife, and others). Further, the soundtrack is made up of tracks that are half new to the series and half old, so songs like "Goldfinger", "Bring the Noise", and "When Worlds Collide" make return appearances.

Tony Hawk HD stays true to every single level. Any original goals remain (and can be found in the same location) while some levels from Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 feature new goals (to match the ten goals of every other level). The most significant difference between this game and the originals comes from the art and graphics department. Each level looks glorious compared to its predecessor. My little brothers both said the same thing on separate occasions. They both thought it was nice to see what each level was really supposed to be. For instance, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 Hangar level on the N64 had hangar-like elements, but on the HD version, it really feels like a hangar of some kind, with a lot more life.

Since I was going through a retro Tony Hawk phase to begin with, this game was right down my alley. I think the fifteen dollar price tag is a good deal for any fan of the series looking to crank out some retro gaming. It also seems to have a fair amount of replay value, as beating the game with each skater (an accomplishment in itself) unlocks "Projectives", which are more or less tougher goals for each skater (ex: 100,000 points in a minute). Also, progressing in the game unlocks additional cheats and secret characters (and outfit choices). For as arcade and simple as the original Tony Hawk's were, they're still a heck of a lot of fun.

I think Underground 1 was probably the last really good game in the Tony Hawk series.

All of the new stuff they tried in that game worked out great.
