The Rise of Costs, The Fall of Gaming

Ever wonder why the number of sports games being produced has dropped dramatically during the current console generation?

    One word: costs.

Really miss the non-main sports this gen. Only volleyball game is DOAX 2,only jetski game is DOAX 2,no BMX at all (Wii doesn't count),no rollerblade game,3 snowboarding games but one was at launch, one is one of the worst games in exsistance and the other put out 2 versions in 8 months.

Agressive Inline,Dave Mirra BMX,Outlaw Volleyball,Splashdown,Beach Spikers...they were all awesome and not a sign of them anywhere this gen.

We've also lost good MotoX games as well.

If I would've known then, what gaming would be like now, I probably would've kept my PS2, and Xbox and never sold a game I really enjoy. How have we not had next gen Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic? Really miss last gen gaming.

I hear you. Fortunetly I have a full container of all the games I loved last gen. I would need to track down an XBOX as I still have a ps2 and cube.

It's not surprising...same happens in movies. Blockbuster movies cost way more to make now vs. the past. You still have indie movies and whatnot that are cheaper.

The "AAA" games will always get more expensive because they get more complicated and gamers expect more.

This isn't the 8-bit era where a game could be created by 2 guys in 3 months or something....

Games like this are still being made, it's just that now they come out digitally on mobile devices or PC instead of being a retail disc released on a dedicated game console.

                Still play Dave Mirra...

I know its mostly fictional, but a good reboot of Jet Moto would be welcome, along with a Supercross game... I need to invest in some more ps1 games. It would also help if they would start making ps3 backwards compatible again.. it is dumb not to include it, since the last gen systems are all but phased out.

Oh, no doubt. They were the "indie" developers I refer about.

I still contend that those games don't come quite near the level of any AAA title (COD, Skyrim, Madden, etc).

The Indie games are sometimes flat out amazing, but they're definitely more simple when it comes to graphics and other areas.

Not knocking them, just pointing out the differences between a XBLA title and a full release game...

The reason backwards compatibility has become such a mess this generation is that the console makers and game publishers have decided they don't want you playing their old games. They want you to only buy their new $60 games.

I will be shocked if any of the next generation consoles are fully backward-compatible.

Another reason I love PC gaming. Emulators and modding have allowed me to play numerous games throughout the years without any issues.

This generation has caused me to leave the console game completely.

I don't buy nearly the amount of games unused too. With the advent of forums and online reviews etc, it's just to easy to spot a dud game. Back in the day, you buoyed and rolled the dice.

Now, unless it gets stellar reviews from sites and OS, I don't even bother.

I really miss the variety of the last generation. There are too many games that are basically clones of each other.

That and I do miss my NBA Street (particularly 1 and 2) and Jade Empire.

Movie studios use their tent pole releases to basically subsidize their "indie" or "award" movies. I haven't seen gaming go that route yet.

It seems like the Ps1 had such a variety of games and people were very imaginative.

Now, we have either been spoiled by technology or there really isn't that many creativity going on.

I remember the rise of Crash, Spyro, Gex, etc.

Also played the **** put of some Monster Truck racing game, jet Moto, and vigilante 8. I miss those days
