One of my favorite games this generation is getting a sequel, and it's exclusive to the Wii U. WTF?

Back in May, it seemed like Bayonetta 2 was dead in the water. The original attracted critical praise aplenty, but failed to make much of a dent in the charts and the only statement that developer Platinum Games would make was that they'd love to make a sequel, but only when the time was right.

Well, it turns out that the time was right all along, and Bayonetta 2 will not only be a Wii U exclusive but will be published by Nintendo, perhaps the most unlikely saviour for a series with such a strong emphasis on violence and sexuality. The first game was of course published by Nintendo's old sparring partner, Sega.

Daamit WiiU exclusive? Yeah I won't be buying it. Oh well.

Edit: AND its a first party nintendo title? This won't end well.

WOW this is a bummer. Bayonetta was one of my favorite action games in a LONG LONG time. Seeing I won't be able to experience 2 is disheartening.

If its on the Wii U, don't expect her to be the sex symbol she once was.

I was gonna say if it didn't sell on two systems it's not going to sell on one so it won't be exclusive for long...then it's published by Nintendo.

As with Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 is under development and production here at Platinum Games, and is a true sequel to the acclaimed first game in the series. Bayonetta is one of our most beloved titles, and it played a large part in establishing Platinum Games as an emerging game studio in the minds of users worldwide. Bayonetta has fans the world over, and we would never dream of alienating them from participating in the future of Platinum Games.

That being said, the console games market is in a state of upheaval, so establishing a new game franchise requires a considerable amount of will, determination, and love. Bayonetta is a brand that we want to see become stronger, reaching the hands of more and more gamers, so we have continued to consult with Sega, the previous game's publisher, on how we can make sure this takes place. Our answer was a new partnership with Nintendo.

Alongside Nintendo, we hope to grow the Bayonetta brand beyond where it stands today, allowing even more gamers around the world to experience the action of our beloved witch. As developers, we are working hard to make this a reality.

You want to get it MORE hands by releasing it on LESS consoles and putting it on one which:

1. Isn't out yet.
2. The successor to a system that didn't have the original.
3. The successor to a system where these types of games consistantly failed.
4. Currently has no install base compared to the 100 million 360's and PS3's out there.

Then say you don't want to do the exact thing you're doing.

I could not possibly post enough of those.

As I read that quote all that stood out to me was "We sold out....we sold out...we sold out....we sold out. Everything they were saying made no sense in a world of "common sense". Yet if we say those things, "MAYBE they will believe what we are saying".

Yup, I was reading a few articles where no other publisher was willing to take the risk with a sequel. So for those bitching, crying, and complaining thank Nintendo for helping get a sequel to the Wii U regardless of it being a coup for them to get a megaton exclusive.

Yeah, reading between the lines it sure sounds like Nintendo saved the IP. I guess Wii U exclusivity is better than no sequel at all.

Having this be console exclusive sucks for fans of the series, but what would you rather them do? Not make the game at all? It sounds like, without Nintendo, this game wouldn't even exist.

I'm glads they found a suitor to help publish, but what makes them think this will give it more exposure/sale than the larger install bases of PS3 Xbox. Unless their expectations are the barest of minimums.

I'm pretty sure I'm not alone saying this won't cause me to go get a WiiU. Glad its being made, don't like Nintendos hands are on it.

Then get a Wii U if you guys want to play the sequel so bad. The way I'm reading Platinum's comments is that nobody else wanted to publish this game and Nintendo realizes they need some hardcore titles and are giving this a chance. What if this was exclusive on the PS3 or 360?
