    Two more:

    Gametrailers - 9.8

    Video

    Text

Bayonetta 2 is a smart, confident sequel that knows exactly what it wants to be. It takes a long hard look at the original game, keeping everything sacred intact while deftly cleaving off any and all excess. Every chapter bursts with spectacle and every boss fight thrills. Perhaps most impressive, though, is that Bayonetta 2 is uncompromising. It’s a violent, sexy, crude and visually overwhelming rocket of a game from beginning to end.
    The Guardian - 5/5

The nature of third-person beat-em-ups is often misunderstood. Bayonetta 2 is a linear game with 15 chapters (plus post-completion extras) that will take probably 15 hours to finish once. But completion is where games like Bayonetta 2 really get started. This genre is all about mastering a combat system and gradually cranking up the difficulty as you do so, learning the ins and outs of an incredibly complex move-set and the different styles inherent in its various weapons (I’ve unlocked eight, and there are more). Bayonetta 2 is not “about” finishing the story or being blown away by the set-pieces, visually astounding as the latter often are – it’s about becoming better at playing to the extent that combat becomes almost a performance.
Bayonetta 2’s campaign gets within touching distance of the original’s sheer imagination, but its structure is far superior – Bayonetta’s biggest problem was that it didn’t offer experienced players a way to simply enjoy the combat system outside of story mode. This means it’s extraordinarily difficult to choose between the two titles but, as luck would have it, the definitive version of Bayonetta is included in the sequel’s special edition. That particular purchase is probably the greatest action game package in history.
Bayonetta 2 is another Wii U classic, another brilliant production from Platinum Games, and an exceptional debut for its first-time director Yusuke Hashimoto. It is not just that the core fighting system is so great, but that the game’s construction lets players pick and choose the parts they most enjoy, and delight in discovering new secrets as they do so.

The sheer polish applied to every part of Bayonetta 2 is something every major studio should aspire to: the exceptional and wide-ranging soundtrack, the huge number of unlocks, the Nintendo easter eggs, the “making of” materials, and the unlockable characters that bring their own style. Not a single thing has been held back. In this second adventure, Bayonetta over-delivers in every regard, and it will be a long time before another fighting game threatens her crown.

Undecided if I want to revisit Bayonetta 1 before or after Bayonetta 2. It would be my 5th playthrough and it's been almost 4 years since I played it. Either way, I'm excited!

Damn, the eShop download is taking forever. Started it around 1 in the morning and checked just before I left for work and it was at 22% on the install. Was hoping I'd get to play something for the install.

How does the WiiU's download while sleep feature work? I noticed when I shut it off the power light went yellow, which means it entered sleep mode, but this morning it was red. Does it just turn off after being in sleep mode for a certain time?

Also going to need to pick up an external drive to download the original Bayonetta as Bayonetta 2 left about 5 GB of space left on my WiiU

Playing through Bayonetta on Normal, then jumping into Bayonetta 2 on Hard.

Nintendo-themed costumes are unlocked from the start in the first game.

Stone score for Chapter II. I'm rusty. Trying to hammer that Dodge Offset mechanic into my brain again. Wii U port seems pretty good. Some slowdown here and there, but closer to the 360 in performance than the PS3 version.

Wow, Chapter 3 and 4 in Bayonetta 2 are so good. 4 especially was hype!

Something that immediately jumped out to me going directly from the first game, is how much more vibrant Bayonetta 2 is. Everything thing just pops more.

I really like that there's an option for camera distance because I felt the default setting was to close.

Love coming up with new combos when trying out a new weapon set. Was using the Rakshasa with the fire/ice guns (forgot the name) and pulled of a few straight Pure Platinums. When you just get into the flow it seems like nothing can hit you as you're in constant witch time with the dodges.

Do need to try and get into the habit of switching weapon sets mid combo. Never really did it tactically in the original. Maybe I'll save that for the next playthrough. May play through on Easy also just to get easier Platinums to unlock all the costumes.

Lumen Sage fights are so thrilling, and when your on and dodging well, their beautifully balletic. If these keep up, they will top the Dante vs Vergil showdowns in DMC3 for me.

Up to chapter VIII, and there hasn't been a single scripted QTE sequence that results in a death if missed. This is one of the few complaints I have with the first game. You can be doing well in some chapters, then comes this QTE and you miss it and it kills your score. Even if you don't care about score, it still feels cheap. I'm happy these kind of QTEs are absent.

So far I'm digging the Chernabog and Undine weapon combination the most. Really looking forward to getting those whips that are in the demo.

Yeah, I meant to put this in my last post. Some of my favorite encounters in any video game. From just the fight with the Sage himself to your Demons and Angels clashing in the background. It looks visually incredible, not to mention the actual mechanics of the fight are the strongest of any of the encounters in the game.

Finished first playthrough on 2nd Climax. Bayonetta 2 is structurally the same and emulates a lot of the first game, but I'm perfectly okay with more of the same, when it's this good. It's even smoother mechanically, has more varied weapons, has less cheap moments, better art and has a story that's easier to follow along and upon completion, actually manages to make the first game make sense. I do maybe wish there was more normal mob encounters, they seemed to be lacking a bit compared to all the 1-on-1 and big set piece battles.

Now to playthrough multiple more times, check out Tag Climax, and the Lost Chapters. So many unlocks and different ways to play.

                            3rd Climax playthrough complete

I can confidently say Bayonetta 2 is better than the first game in almost every way. For any potential newcomers, I would argue to jump straight into Bayonetta 2.

Favorite weapon combinations are now the chainsaws with whips, and bow with the weapon you unlock for beating the game on 3rd Climax. Whip combos into grabs during Witch Time are really good, and work on all enemies and bosses.

Bracelet of Time is my favorite accessory, which can be purchased after getting gold ratings for all chapters on 2nd Climax. Being able to activate Witch Time at anytime, assuming you have the magic meter is to good. Pair that with the Evil Harvest Rosary for a pretty ridiculous combo.

If you have the Star Fox costume unlocked, play the beginning of Chapter XVI.

Oh man, I was wondering if they would do that. That's freaking awesome.

I need to get kicking on my 3rd Climax playthrough.
