Whats the suggested retail for this bad boy? I heard on the news over the summer that Japan will get them first, and will be about $700. I also heard its got a hardrive, Tivo, and maybe even DVD/CD burning capabilites. Not sure though.

Wow, that's pretty stupid.
I would be willing to be the $700 dollars is like a "before you can buy them" price. I seriously doubt they would start at $700 dollars. Sony isn't that stupid. They know a lot of their customers are kids, and how many parents (or kids for that matter) would be willing to shell out $700 for a gaming system?
Even if it does start at $700, you know it is going to go way down. Remember how SEGA Saturn started at $500?Comment

It looks like Sony still plans on making a firm stand against putting 4 controller ports on the machine. They just can't turn their back on all the extra cash they'd get from selling multi-taps.

I agree it sucks, but the Xbox is the worst offender imo. Want to play DVDs? Shell out another $20. Want to hook up 5.1 audio? Welp, another $30... Sony may not put 4 controller ports on the system, but at least they gave you a digital audio connection and dvd playback ablities out of the box.

You have GOT TO be kidding..??..??
HDTV, 5.1 Digital,Hard drive and 4 controller ports included. Yes you had to buy remote to get DVD playing, however I bet most PS2 owners also bought one instead of using controller. Also the digital audio on PS2 is not IN GAME digital surround as far as I can remember.
There's no comparison as to which of the 2 abused the add-on aspects. Not even close...
<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
Actually HDTV and Dolby Digital support does not come out of the box. Thats another $30. On top of that, they dont even give you the digital audio cable with the AV pack, so you need to shell out another $20 for that if you want digital sound.
I agree, theres no comparison which one abused the add on aspects. I for one think dvd playback and 5.1 support out of the box is much more useful than 4 controller ports. Sure, PS2 owners may have elected to buy a remote for the system, but they didnt have to. To get the Xbox to play DVDs you must shell out another $20 (or hack it).
BTW, I dont even own a PS2 anymore, but the truth is the truth. The Xbox add ons are much worse than the PS2s.Comment
