I never thought of cutting off power to the doors and opening the airlocks. Gonna take some quick thinking to make sure my guys are clearing of the draining oxygen though.

I watched a youtube video of a guy playing and probably learned too much. It wasn't anything cheap or tricky, pretty much just straightforward, but I would have probably appreciated figuring stuff out on my own more.

I actually beat it my first playthrough, if that tells you how much it taught me, though I got really lucky in my encounters. I'm actually 3 for 7, one being the starting ship, one playing through the federation ship and then one playing through the federation to unlock B type.

That's crazy you beat it on your first time. Even on easy I think made it too the 3rd sector an have yet to beat it, but learning from mistakes and making up strategies is what makes it so great.

A good first real success for kick starter.

In addition to opening the airlocks if you can try and fight them in your med bay. Unless they have you outnumbered 3 to 1 you'll survive by being healed.

NOOOOOOOOO! Got the flagship down to two hull with my breach rocket ready to fire, and they fired a missile that finished off my ship. I was ONE hit away. Knowing my luck, it would have missed, but man. So close!

Had one of my best runs yet come up just short. Started with the Zoltan cruiser, after exploring and getting some really nice scrap, equipment, and crew I ended up with: 4 Zoltan, 2 Engi, 2 Mantis; Zoltan shield, Engi med bot dispersal, advanced FTL navigation (really wish I could have found weapon pre-igniter); Burst Laser II, S Bomb, Hull Smasher Laser II, Glaive Beam. I had a total of 9 shield (5 Zoltan, 4 reg), you can imagine combined with that weapon load out it was pretty devastating. Plus I unlocked the Stealth Cruiser, so that should be interesting.

So, to make a long story short, it came down to the final battle

I had no trouble at all stage one, didn't even need to repair, absolutely destroyed stage 1. Stage 2 was going well, until suddenly a large volley of weapons took out my O2, , took out my doors, took out my med bay, caused multiple hull breaches, and caused multiple fires. On top of that, they transported over a boarding party. Luckily stage 2 was near death so I was able to rid myself of the ship, but the combination of fires, lack of oxygen, lack of healing, and intruders was too much for half of my crew to bear. I made it through with all my Zoltan crew surviving. So I make it to repair and go to tackle stage 3. It goes OK, really missing the extra crew but I was managing. Had them down to one hull, they had just repaired back to 2 shields, my glaive, hull laser and burst laser nearly charged. I was down to 5 hull and two shields, but they were about to be toast, in my mind I was already celebrating. All three weapons pop up green at the same time....but so does the flagship's damned Zoltan shield. I fire away, Zoltan shield gone, now I just have to wait for weapons to recharge, right then I get the power surge warning and it shoots not only the special super lasers, but also it's normal lasers and missiles. Aaargh. I felt like Charlie Brown and Lucy just snatched the ball just as my foot was about to make contact.

It was my highest scoring game, despite not prevailing, at 4275. My three wins scored 3920, 3561, and 3328.

Beat this on normal finally. Fed ship with 2 burst laser II, a small bomb (or large ion) and a peak beam.

Having multiple burst lasers just chewed through shields than a well timed peak along with the artillery beam of the fed ship was pretty devastating to any enemy.

Here's an example of how quickly this game can turn to hell. I didn't get very far at all, and this was on easy! I probably could have gotten out of it, but I hadn't played in a couple weeks so I was rusty.

I have everything but crystal, and it's a bitch to get.

Cubsfan, when you get fires, unless you have rock crew you need to immediately space those sections

Great, a reason to start up that time sink again. Hopefully there are more reasons to play (ships, races), not sure just new weapons will do it for me.
