Advanced Edition is out. I had never even played this game despite buying it in '12. Put in a few hours today and it is awesome. Really, really enjoying it and figuring out different things while my crew suffocates to death. Awesome soundtrack as well.

Anyone having any issues since installing the advanced edition? My game stops responding for 5-10 seconds after I finish every beacon.

Same here. Played a little bit last night, just the normal content though (I feel like I shouldn't add in the expansion stuff until I can actually win for once. )

Love the new control that allows you to save crew positions and have them return to them with a hotkey.

I've got FTL but never played it. Do I just go straight to the advanced version or should I play the original first?

Original. The advanced stuff will complicate things more in an already complex game, and it's probably not something you want to learn the game while doing.

But you'll still want to download the free update regardless, because it has that "return to position" hotkey which makes managing your crew so much easier. The game gives you the option of playing the base game or using the expansion content before you start the game.

Ah, thanks. I'll grab the update but stick with the original for now.

Played a good 2 hours of it last night on my IPad, seriously love this game. I'm a newbie for sure but after every play through I learn something new.
