Doom 3 did it for me, played the game for about 30 minutes returned it the next day. Dead Space and Resi Evil games also get the heart racing. Honorable mention to Dino Crisis and Silent Hill.

Heck all the DOOMS had moments.

Aliens vs. Predator (1999 PC version) -- I got spooked pretty bad by the first alien encounter in level 1. I took about a week break from the game after that.

Then I finally started to feel like I'm building up a tolerance to the game and I get jumped by the first facehugger encounter in level 2. I couldn't bring myself to play the game for months after that.

Playing Doom 3 with some good headphones in a dark basement gave me alot of these moments in 04 at the age of 13.

condemned: criminal origins in the mall with the moving statues (they move when you werent looking).

Alan Wake on the hardest difficulty, batteries all used up trying to make that death run towards the only street light lit up and its pretty far away.

The first FEAR game.
That was the first game I played with my Turtle Beach X3 (I think( headset. Of course, at night, no lights.

I climbed up a ladder during the game and

Forgot about Alan Wake, one of the freakiest games i have ever played.
