I'm in the same boat as you. I wasted far too much of my life raiding and pvp grinding in WoW years ago. The reason I play more sports games than anything else is that I didn't have to worry about other people's schedules and I can quit playing whenever I want.

While I really enjoyed the exploration missions, I canceled my preorder for Destiny because don't want to get sucked into the black hole of pvp and raiding (and I'm terrible at pvp in shooters).

It is a pet peeve of mine when developers force users to play their game a certain way (or worse, design the game a certain way claiming that is how the users wanted it; see Sim City). Giving users full customization/freedom has always been the best part of any game, and really should be the end goal of any developer. Let players play how they want, don't pigeon hole them. It is the quickest way to alienate your user base.

That said, even if they didn't change it, this one aspect of the game is only a small part of the whole experience. Ideally it won't damper the rest of the game.

It does come off as them treating us like children, though.

Yep, me and a few others will be there.

Perfect end game setup, I like it.

This part of the statement really sticks out to me as something that I don't think should ever be said/felt.

So developers shouldn't create the game they want to play just to cater to your whims and desires?

SimCity is different, because they flat out lied about why they had the online fiasco. They said the reason they had it is so the server could do calculations that home PCs/laptops couldn't without bogging down the game. That was proved false pretty quickly.

However, saying a developer has to make the game a certain way because that's what you enjoy is a bit... self-centric.

I see nothing wrong with what they've said about raids. Raids aren't for everyone, so be it. It's the same risk-reward system that's in other online games. Not being able to get the "Ultimate Gun of Bad-Assery" because you can't (for personal/physical/whatever reasons)/don't want to put in the time doesn't mean that the game is closed off to you at all.

I get not liking the fact that there isn't match making or stuff, but match making for that stuff always ends up a pit of crappy people bitching at each other. Being an FPS wouldn't make that community any better.

There's a whole community here to help out with that stuff if you have any interest in trying it and putting in the time.

I'm assuming they don't want randoms doing raids together because it would be a horrible experience.

That's a safe assumption, they want you to have a cohesive group that is partied up and in communication.

It's going to be hours after all, sounds exciting.

Doing the devils lair was a horrible experience at times and that mission wasn't bad. I spent half of my time reviving randoms that decided shooting large enemies at close range was a good idea. I can honestly say that I would never use matchmaking for a raid.

I know a few people that are getting it for ps4 and there's the community here. It can be done.

Yeah, as someone (and I know chrisksaint can back me up here, as can some others perhaps) who deals with the random raid groups in WoW (different genre, sure, same crowds)... spending hours with them would be absolutely horrid trying to get anything meaningful accomplished.

Think of this as a blessing in disguise if you're unhappy about it.

I'll be raiding on the Xbox One. A good idea to do is join the OS group on bungie.net because some achievements/trophies include completing raids and strikes with a group.

Have to say now and then I like to take a weekend night off and just vegetate. Sounds like the raid will be perfect for that.
