Re: Destiny
Can't wait for the beta. This and The Witcher 3 are my most anticipated games.
Gamespot Interview: Bungie On How Destiny Beta Is Like a Full Product Launch
Bungie obviously has a strong and enviable legacy when it comes to online shooters, but Destiny is something altogether new. How are you preparing to beta test something the parameters of which have not been seen before?
We supported some pretty big, enduring gaming communities over the past decade, but we haven't sat around giving each other high fives these past few years. We went out and recruited some of the most talented and experienced people we could find. We brought in hundreds of fans to play embarrassingly early builds of Destiny in our labs, collecting millions of data points. We've built technology specifically suited to deliver Destiny's core pillars, enabling living worlds that feel like places you visit, filled with great action and adventure that gets your heart pumping, and offering up persistence of character that lets players become legends.
The Destiny beta, in many ways, is being treated like a full product launch. We can't just carve out three competitive multiplayer maps this time around. We'd only be gathering data on one facet of the overall experience--one that is arguably the least resource intensive and most well understood by our team. Destiny demands more. How will this beta compare to the ones offered for Halo 3 and Halo: Reach?
Our ambition is to build big, rich destinations that players can visit over and over again, to fill them up with great story and moments that they can share with their friends, and to deliver face melting action that leads to treasure, challenge, and discovery. We want to pour all of that secret sauce into the Destiny beta. It's a massive undertaking, but one that we believe will pay huge dividends for us, and for our players.
What goals do you have in place for this beta?
We want to ramp up to a pretty massive scale, prior to launch, on all four shipping platforms. We can, and do, perform a lot of small to large-scale testing, but nothing beats a turbulent sea of gamers smashing up against our code, services, and content. No amount of prediction and intuition can account for the delightfully random human element that will ultimately define Destiny.
Your past betas for Halo have had millions of players. What kind of uptake are you expecting this time, especially considering you're on multiple platforms?
We have achieved some pretty significant scale in the past with our betas, and those experiences have afforded us with a small amount of confidence. So small, in fact, that we're conducting another public beta for Destiny, with the hopes of attracting millions of players again, just to be sure!Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Destiny
I just don't know which system to get if for. I'm definitely going to pre-order it, though.
Edit: Just got it for the XB1. Wouldn't feel right playing a Bungie game on anything but an Xbox.Last edited by BenGerman; 10-02-2013, 11:51 AM.Writer for Operation Sports

PS Blog: Your Questions Answered
How does joining a public event work?
To join a public event, all you have to do is get within range, and open fire. No lobbies. No loading screens. The frontier is open, and filled with encounters you can join, or skip right past, on your way to something you’ve deemed momentarily more important.
Will there be PvP?
Yup! We’re already thumping each other’s skulls in studio-wide playtests, battling other Guardians for glory, bragging rights, and rewards. All the gear you earn in competitive multiplayer can be taken into other modes, too (and vice versa)!
I like to play games solo often. How much can I do alone?
Ah, the proverbial Lone Wolf. You can experience Destiny’s story as a party of one, assuming you’re that much of a badass. Destiny will never require you to team up with other people in campaign missions. You’ll see other players along the way, but you can choose to ignore them. That said, we think you’ll find that playing with other Guardians is quick, painless, and a ton of fun. It’s always your choice, though.
How deep does the customization go?
All the way down to your bones! Well, maybe not that far, but Destiny will be what you make of it.
All of the weapons and gear you can earn in Destiny can be customized — some more than others, but the goal is to let every player tell a story through the gear and abilities they’ve earned and wear. You create a character, pick a class, gender, and race, and then you customize the way you look and fight by completing missions, defeating enemies, or maybe just by exploring the world.
How big is the world map? I’m really excited!
Bigger than anything Bungie has ever built. We no longer have mission designers, but world designers, instead. They’re building places worth visiting, exploring, and reclaiming from your enemies.
We’re excited, too! We can’t wait to see what you’ll do when you get in there. We’ll be watching!
What kind of endgame things are you planning on implementing to keep this world alive after players have finished?
We’re creating a world you’ll want to visit again and again, and it will evolve and change right alongside you. We’re going to fill it up with activities that we think will satisfy a lot of different types of players, or even the different moods you have.
That might mean something really challenging on the cooperative front, like a Raid. It might mean that amazing, exotic Sniper Rifle that you’ve been drooling over for the last few months. It might even mean the new twist we’ve put on the as-of-yet-unrevealed game type that makes it feel new and different.Last edited by Flawless; 10-02-2013, 03:46 PM.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Destiny
I went in today to pre-order Destiny on Xbox One and it already has the beta code printed on the receipt. I would go to your Gamestop and have them print one out for you. They might have allocated some codes to previous pre-orders though!Comment

Re: Destiny
Going to be really interested in how Bungie maneuvers around the older generation. From everything I've read, there's no way an interconnected world like the one they've described could function on the current consoles.Writer for Operation Sports

Re: Destiny
Definitely a good point. I assume they will have to scale down quite a bit to have a smooth experience on current consoles.Comment
