Can't say I blame Disney. Poor management for about a decade now is to blame for LucasArts demise.

Also, with the amount of studio closures this gen, one would hope it serves as a wake-up call to the industry. There needs to be better managing of budgets and expectations, otherwise next-gen is going to be even darker times.

Dark Forces on DOS was the very first PC game I owned.

These guys could do no wrong in the 1990s. Rebel Assault, X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, et al.

The only good thing is if they allow some other good companies to make their games, which I doubt will happen.

While it sounds bad now, it should mean we'll end up getting MORE Star Wars games, not less moving forward. Lets just hope they manage their license well and we get high quality games.

Especially if they really are talking about raising prices of games. I think the last couple of years has been kind of bland to be honest, biding the time til this gen has passed by. Look at the month of April this year

Really sad, 1313 looked great and first assault did also. Well I guess no more hope for KOTOR 3 l, battlefront 3 or a new Jedi knight game.

                Re: Disney Shuts Down Lucasarts

LucasArts hasn't made anything good this past generation anyway. Battlefront was their last big game and as much as people love the series on here, I thought 1 was great, but thought 2 was pretty mediocre. If some other company wants to license it they could probably make a better game anyway since the shooting in that game was never too great.

Bioware made KOTOR, they just got the rights from LucasArts so nothing is stopping them from getting the rights from Disney.

Also those lamenting the old adventure games, most of those guys work at Double Fine or Telltale now so the chance of a new Grim Fandango or Full Throttle is higher now than before.

                Still, **** Disney though.

                  Kotaku

Publicly, Disney is saying their current games could be licensed out to a different publisher or developer, but according to our source, that's unlikely. Our source says Lucas has pursued the option for "one or both games," but nothing happened. "With the teams now basically being dispersed I think both games are effectively dead forever," our source said.
A second source also told Kotaku this afternoon that the chances of Lucas licensing out 1313 are very slim. The odds are "effectively zero," the source said.

                  Founder of Avalanche Studios:

RIP #LucasArts! I'm not surprised though. Team members told me they needed another two years to complete SW: 1313
@Kotaku Who can afford a monster project like that any more? #LucasArts

They haven't made anything in a while...sucks, but I'd rather see Disney license it out to devs that will do something with it.

One can hope. I great up on tons of LucasArts games. I miss the old MSN Gaming Zone and Dark Forces II matches

What is the last good thing that studio did? Of course it closed down. Lets hope Disney gets the right studios/publishers to work on titles in the future.

Battlefront II was a 2005 game.

Nobody enjoyed the lego games or The Force Unleashed 1?

I guess they just didn't make the transition into this generation properly. I loved Mercenaries, Jedi Outcast, Battlefront, etc last gen.

It would be nice to think that Disney will license out the IP for good gameplay, but I'll remain hesitant until that actually occurs.
