And as awesome as everyone says it is, I never bothered to buy The Last of Us, as I could easily see myself not finishing it.

Along those same lines, I bought the PS3 version of Injustice when it came out; upgraded to the PS4 version. I've yet to even begin story mode (though I do play the other modes). Haven't started the story modes on Killzone or Battlefield 4 either.
Best non sports game I have ever played. Compelling story, top notch voice acting, incredible tension, drama, suspense, scary as hell too.

A true masterpiece......your cheating yourself Wolf.

Play it. And trust me.....you will finish it.

All of them. I've never beat anything. And the only one I regret is FF7.

I'll pick it up at some point, I'm sure. I've heard too many good things about it to not play it at some point.

          Wha....

          Huh....

          Whaaaaaaaaaat??????

The Last of Us is the pinnacle of last generation gaming. It's a triumph and the most captivating and emotionally touching (and draining) video gaming experience I've had to date.

I'm on my 4th playthrough, by the way. And I've never done that.

Re: Single Player Campaigns That You Didn't Finish

I guess since I'm in, it's my turn:

Hitman: Absolution - I made the mistake of playing The Last of Us first. It's very good, but I got halfway through and just stopped. It couldn't compare.

Max Payne 3 - This game is terrible. In every way imaginable. Max is a buzz kill, and all you do the entire game is shoot. And then shoot some more. And then barrel roll and then shoot. And then climb some bleachers and shoot. And then get on a helicopter and wow you fly it! Oh sweet!!!! Yay!!! Oh wait, no you don't. You board it and you shoot.

GTA V - I actually really like this game. The characters are wonderful. But every time I get the urge to play it, I think about having to drive to my next mission or side mission, and with HARDLY ANY ENTERABLE BUILDINGS or spontaneous side activities (like the ones Red Dead is full of) the world feels empty. And every pedestrian is suspicious of or scared of you. I'll beat it eventually, I guess. But I get exhausted just thinking about popping it in. Maybe it just isn't as good as it should be...

Skyrim - Now this game is incredible. But after about 20 hours I began to feel guilty about abandoning my The Show Franchise. After like two weeks of not playing it, I imagined playing it again but realized I had probably forgotten the controls and didn't want to relearn how to cast spells and stuff. LOL! You know what? Taking breaks from games and forgetting the controls is a big deterrent to me. Am I nuts that it makes me exhausted just thinking about that?

Fallout 3 - Again, great great game. Read Skyrim, just remove the word "magic" and replace it with everything else you can imagine.

Far Cry 3 - Repeat the two above! Amazing game! Just replace the word....

Ok. Maybe open world games aren't for me as much as I want them to be.

I'm generally really good at beating games because my budget for them is small. But these I just never got around to finishing. Wow, it was nice to vent!

I just remembered that I never finished Shadow of the Colossus (PS2). I will probably get the HD version and this time finish it.

Have to agree with this. Not only forgetting the controls, but with a game like that - forgetting the storyline and quests as well. That's what always intimidates me when it comes to games that large. I feel like I will never finish them because I always have at least 4-5 games in my rotation (including sports games).

I have to say though, since I got my Vita I find myself more focused on the single player experience. I think it's just because of the convenience of being able to play it anywhere, and being able to pick up and go where I left off. Almost done with KZ:Mercenary (even though its only like a 5 hr campaign) and I am making good progress in Persona as well.

I have been on my first play through of Skyrim since it's release, over 250 hours now.....and still going. I have the hard cover guide so before I start adventuring again I review my quest que and read up on where I am at.

                  The game is magnificent!!!

I am like you guys as well. I typically have 3-4 sports games going and one non sports game going.

Re: Single Player Campaigns That You Didn't Finish

Skyrim - Fantastic game, but I realized about 30 hours into it that this game was not created for me (39, married, kids.. limited gaming time). Basically, this game and most sandbox/open world games are for 14-20 year olds, imo. This makes me sad because I'd love to experience/finish games like this, but there is no way it's going to happen.

GVA IV- See above. Also, on this point, these open world/sandbox games require one to have a 3-hour window available in which to play. Anything less, and I find it to be a waste of time. Translation, you can't play these games in 30-60 minute chunks, which is what my "gaming time" has been the past few years.

Arkham Asylum - Got about 75% in. Game started to feel like a grind. It seemed way too long for what it was... an action/fighting game.

Splinter Cell: Conviction - My favorite series on the XBOX. Got about 75% through this one, as well, but pretty much hated it from the start. Did not like the change from full stealth to a stealth/action hybrid. Also, hated the new targeting/marking system. Don't even remember what it was called.

I think reading this thread has brought up the debate between campaign length and value. Some want the single-player campaign to be 50+ hours to justify the $60 purchase. I understand that.

For me, however, learning that a single-player campaign is 50+ is a turn off. Heck, 30+ hours is a turn off.

I only buy used games and I wait till a game is $20 or less. So, if I buy Bioshock: Infinite a year from now for $15 and the campaign is only 15 hours... great, perfect, this price point and this campaign length is right in my wheelhouse (I have no idea how long the campaign really is.. just an example).

I feel exactly the same way - hated it, but dude trust me blacklist is AMAZING. I loved it, the newest splinter cell brought back some old-school stuff, still uses a bunch of new-school stuff, but the level design is soooo much better and some are straight out of sc1. It's one of my top 10 games this past entire generation, maybe top 5 and you can play it in your situation for sure. You sound just like me, so I'd be surprised if you got it and didn't thoroughly enjoy it - I was super surprised how awesome it was especially since conviction was steaming crap to me.

Re: Single Player Campaigns That You Didn't Finish

If I listed every game I haven't finished that I actually liked, I might need a couple of pages...so I'll just go with some of the more recent ones:

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - absolutely love the game, but school just got in the way (this is pretty much the dominating theme for all of these). It's been months so when I do go back to this I'm starting all over.

Tomb Raider - another amazing game, just not enough time.
                        Hitman: Absolution - ditto.
                        Spec Ops: The Line
Black Ops 2 - I just couldn't get into this story mode. Still want to finish it, but...we'll see.

Some notable ones from the past:

GTA IV (come to think of it, I haven't completed the story mode in any GTA game)
                        Black
                        The Warriors

Re: Single Player Campaigns That You Didn't Finish

Fallout- Got lost on a mission and couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do. Loved the game up until that point.

Far Cry 3- I liked the game so much that I didn't want it to end so I play it every month or so.

Assassins Creed 1 and 3- I feel asleep in the first game riding my horse from one side of the map to the other. In AC3 I got bored clearing out entire bases and having them refill with soldiers.

Amnesia- Got freaked out and I haven't been in the mood since.

Zombie U- Finally kept a character alive for a long time and now I'm afraid it's been too long and I will get him killed because I forgot the controls.

Prototype 2- I loved the first Prototype but the P2's main character is extremely annoying.

X-com- Great game but I haven't been back since I lost my favorite sniper.
