Re: Got my Xbox back last friday and now i am a believer
I have the samsung and no problems so far. Had the thompson drive and had to take it in twice because of those DDE. Microsoft fukced up on this one. Let's hope they don't do the same for the next gen consoles.Comment

I think this makes the perfect case for not putting HDs in consoles. In that other thread I posted my idea about remote saves(home network) and xbox live saves. I like both of these ideas.
The only problem I see with the xbox live saves is for games like NCAA football where the save is 4 megs and you have an upstream cap of say 15K.. saving a game would take forever.

Not to mention the fact that youre limiting save game capabilities to only those who have Xbox Live kits. Plus, you take away a lot of the (physical) portability of the system. You wouldnt be able to hook it into any TV and youre good to go. Youd have to have a broadband connection also, which some people dont have or arent able to get. Keep things local if you can.
Home network storage just opens the floodgates for piracy because then anybody would have DIRECT access to the storage space used for game saves. What is to stop somebody from using this to load ROMs?NBA 2K18 ratings for several seasons generated from advanced analytics using the SportsCrunch system:

Re: Got my Xbox back last friday and now i am a believer
You would load your save off your network just like it was on a memory card - no difference except for the storage medium. You can store anything you want on a memory card now, you just will have trouble loading what you save if its not a game save. The same would be true for client/server xbox format.
Trying to stay within the TOS - I don't think this would effect piracy at all unless you are allowing the xbox to boot off the network which would be foolish.Rent this space.Comment

Re: Got my Xbox back last friday and now i am a believer
Dammit, I've got a Thompson. Although I haven't seen any problems yet with my XBOX. I've had it since July of 2002 - a little over a year and a half. For those of you who have or had problems with the Thompson drive, how long after you bought your XBOX did you start seeing them?Comment
