As someone who has played Quake, the only way it had perfect hit detection is if you had less than 20 ping on a server. Quake used server side hit detection, which if you had low enough pings was great. If you didn't it was waaayyy worse than any game with client side hit detection. Think it's annoying getting shot running around corners in CoD. Try attempting to compensate for lag while trying to shoot someone with a rail gun.

There is no perfect hit detection system thanks to latency. Some developers netcode is superior to others. Bungie and Infinity Ward (now Respawn) have always had some of the best IMO. I'm sure some OSers remember playing Rainbow Six 3 on Xbox. That game used server side hit detection just like Quake and CS, but the hit detection in that game was pretty terrible if you didn't have a perfect connection back to the server.

It's always funny how people complain how they wish CoD or BF used server side hit detection. If you ever looked at the Gears of War forums, people used to be complaining about host advantage and wanted Epic to go to client side.

The devil you know is better than the one you don't.
Epic's problem was no dedicated servers in GoW1 I totally remember host advantage (because I was almost always host).

I can totally agree on Bungie (also almost always host in Halo 2 and 3* ) and IW but only for CoD 4 after that is has gotten worse and worse. As for RS3 I never remember having issues and I also feel like I remember that game using a host with the option for dedicated servers (aka: using your Xbox as a server).

And from what you're describing in quake that is (imo) how it should be. We should be at the point where we can keep latency (for the most part) to a minimum. Honestly I'd rather compensate for (my own) lag than see hits but do 0 in 0 damage.

Now I understand latency depends on a lot of factors and the console crowd would need to learn more about it for the quake style to come back but I think it would make for a better gaming experience. First you allow server browsers that show actual ping, which is something seldom if ever done on console. Also allow matchmaking to only find servers with a ping you choose. That way you get into servers with little to no latency and you can then learn to adjust properly.

*unless three used dedicated servers, I can''t remember.

I've been enjoying this game even more now that I've started playing with my DS4 controller.

Cannot wait until this game drops. I'll be like a kid on Christmas morning.

Anyone else find that this game is underwhelming? I know, it's just a beta, but I seriously played for about 2 hours over the weekend and didn't enjoy the game one bit. Thought it looked nice and controls were responsive but had no desire to play after going at it for a couple hours. I still enjoy FPS games but this game wasn't doing it for me. Major let down and won't be a release day buy for me. I'll borrow from a friend or play it some other way before I consider this after the beta.

Pre-order is already placed though, thankfully the wait isn't too crazy until March.
I usually don't use the ignore list, but your right.

2 more days left. I'm not sure what time it ends tomorrow.

I would have to agree. I played a bit more and started to get into it a little bit more but still could not shake a nagging feeling that this felt more like a FTP game than a fully loaded AAA title that people are looking to as a system seller.

Now that may all change if they have some massive additions outside of the beta but from all the fact sheets that I have read it doesn't seem like there is anything earth shattering in store. I think for me most of the emptiness factor comes from some design choices. To me, the maps seem too small while at the same time not populated enough. I think this is mostly due to the wide variance in scale of combatants. I think I would have enjoyed more widescale battles over larger more open terrain rather than what feels like skirmishes.

Thinking about it more my lack of enthusiasm for the game is probably due to my comparing it back to Chrome Hounds, which was by far one of my favorite games I have ever played. But that pretty much lends itself to this just not being a type of game that will appeal to everyone because they clearly weren't going for that and what they were going for has proven to appeal to a section of gamers. I just don't think its going to have the far reaching adoption that many expected it to have. But I can certainly see how for those that like this sort of game it does a good job of presenting a chaotic shooter with a solid vertical element added that really hasnt been executed well before.

Most everyone I've played with has loved it except for one guy I work with who likes it but says he still prefers COD. Said he actually didn't like being in the Titans. WTF that's just madness!

Personally I've had a blast with it especially with a full party of friends but that makes any game almost instantly better.

I hope there is a way to play with a group of 12 and still be able to improve your xp situation. I can't stand how people boosting has made playing with just a group of friends a waste of time in the character development sense.

I guess I'm in the minority but I feel the same way as your friend. I thought being in a Titan would be cool, but really it was always titan against titan... I think it should be more like a kill streak and earned not just handed out.

I dont know why any of these games dont have destructable environments. I mean you have a game with HUGE Mechs and nothing can be destroyed?

It kind of is I guess, the more you kill the faster your Titan is ready.

I wish there was some downside to your Titan getting destroyed. You pretty much can't die while in one since you can just eject. Then once it gets destroyed you get a new on in a couple minutes.

I'm 50/50 on that, definitely see what your saying. I'd say 25% of the time I get shot on the way down after ejecting.

I stlill say there is a lot we haven't seen, so maybe there will be some Tier that we haven't seen yet that takes the ability to eject away, where you have to go down with your Titan.
