Out of curiosity, you're now playing on PC, correct? What sort of shooters do you consider to have good hit detection?

I'm playing on the XBOX One and I'm generally a console gamer in general (the only exception recently being Minecraft) and I've had no issues with respect to hit detection; if anything I've felt the game is more fair than the more recent competitive multiplayer console shooters I've played (Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3).

If, however, the PC game still has the console shooter design sensibilities intact with respect to how hits are handled - which I assume is probably different between PC and console, given that keyboard + mouse will always be more precise than a controller - I can understand how a PC gamer could be frustrated.

Value is subjective. Once we learn that the better off we will be. The fact that you do not like the game does not bother me one bit. But the incessant proselytizing mission of trying to get others who value the game to take your perspective is a big problem.

Have they released how big the biggest Titans will be? Right now they seems really underwhelming. I would love some 'Pacific Rim' like battles between Titans.

A pic for reference, notice the tiny people...

I was one of the guys saying this game looked like COD with jetpacks. Well after actually playing it I have to admit I was wrong. This game is much better than COD. Tons of action and chaos going on. However I wouldnt even compare it to COD because it just felt like a completetly different style of shooter. It was true arcade nonstop action. COD is a arcade shooter but but map designs and the style of game ends up with tons of camping which stalls the match. IMO COD is only fun in a very small close quarters map. With Titanfall yea you could jump around outside the map to sneak up behind everyone but I didnt want to do that. The game made me want to get into the middle of the battle cause guys were just guns blazing.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

You went into the game with your mind already made up, you've spouted nothing but hate for the game from the beginning. If you don't like the game that's fine, trust me I'll lose no sleep over it. But your incessant bashing is just childish.

I'm guessing you've never played quake. Now neither have I but I have heard that it has flawless hit detection in that if you hit someone with your bullets it will hit. Now in terms of more modern shooters CS has got to be one of the best games in terms of hit detection. Another one is CoD 4 which used almost exactly the same hit detection as quake.

These games are much better than the newest CoDs, Titianfall, BF3 & 4. It's kind of sad to see.. A lot of it has to do with client side hit detection and low tick servers.

For those that don't know tick is how often the server updates the world. So if BF is 20 tick it updates 20 times per second. Now I'm not sure if that is true but I saw that number being tossed around. Now CS runs at a few different ones depending on the server, most servers run at 64 tick but others are up to 128. Those are where the hit detection is best.

Now some issues with having it higher are power limitations of consoles and some PCs and also cost of running servers to handle that because as we all know EA care more about money than quality games. And if you don't believe that I can't help you because the botched launched of SimCity and BF4 are pretty prime examples of money over quality.

It would totally make for a better experience but it would also cost more.

Getting shot around corners is one problem that arises from these low tick servers. Another issue is when you see hits on your client side hit detection but the server never sees it.

Now if you've never played anything other than the commercialized FPS titles then you likely will just be used to no hit detection and think it is normal. For people that play games with far better hit detection will notice that change in games like Titianfall where there is (comparatively) none.

Now we know Titianfall runs on source (same engine as CS:GO) so it is capable of 128 tick. Now that is not likely because that requires the game to be running at at least 128 fps so that there is the right number of position to be polled. It would be interesting to know what the tickrate of the titianfall servers are.

We're in a modern age, information is everywhere and people are learning more about how games work. This is the kind of information the devs should be sharing with us. The more communication the better. It will help us understand them better and them understand us better.

You have to think of it this way developers (in a way) speak a different language than most of us. They speak programming languages. Now some of you may too, maybe not as fluently as a game developer but you might know some things, I know I have some experience in programming, not much but some. Now the point I'm making is if you have two people that speak different languages the more they communicate the more they will understand each other. They will find ways to get their point across in a way that the other understands. If they do not understand then you can try explaining it a different way, because if you truly understand someone then you can explain/teach it to someone else.

Also I'd like to apologize for all that ranting, that was totally unnecessary. Not trying to act like I'm better than you but I am trying to explain the issues (glaring at that) in Titianfall and other modern shooters.

And I keep reiterating this but feel like it keeps getting missed... I really wanted this game to be great, despite all the negativity I really wanted to see this game be amazing. I started playing it saying, "Please be good. I know this is a modern shooter and likely won't be but I really want it to be."

I really wanted the best for this game but after reading some things and playing it I am truly disappointed.

As someone who has played Quake, the only way it had perfect hit detection is if you had less than 20 ping on a server. Quake used server side hit detection, which if you had low enough pings was great. If you didn't it was waaayyy worse than any game with client side hit detection. Think it's annoying getting shot running around corners in CoD. Try attempting to compensate for lag while trying to shoot someone with a rail gun.

There is no perfect hit detection system thanks to latency. Some developers netcode is superior to others. Bungie and Infinity Ward (now Respawn) have always had some of the best IMO. I'm sure some OSers remember playing Rainbow Six 3 on Xbox. That game used server side hit detection just like Quake and CS, but the hit detection in that game was pretty terrible if you didn't have a perfect connection back to the server.

It's always funny how people complain how they wish CoD or BF used server side hit detection. If you ever looked at the Gears of War forums, people used to be complaining about host advantage and wanted Epic to go to client side.

The devil you know is better than the one you don't.

I am loving what's in the beta right now, though it stinks it's almost over already.

Pre-order is already placed though, thankfully the wait isn't too crazy until March.

I must be insane, I could have sworn I read about it in the RPS interview with Respawn's head. I just scanned though it and didn't see anything... So now idk if I just made it up or saw it somewhere else.

However it doesn't change the fact that the hit detection is quite bad.
