Re: Halo 5
Custom games browser and a lot more coming in the next update this Thursday.
Halo 5’s latest content release is an epic salvo of experience-enhancing additions, from new weapons, armor, and skins, to brand new ways to build and play, all alongside the biggest Forge update ever seen in a Halo game. In fact, we've got so much in store that we've split up the reveal across two days."Join in Progress" Custom Games Browser
The Monitor's Bounty update will bring the long-awaited Custom Games Browser to Halo 5 on Xbox One and Windows 10. Here's what 343's UX Design Lead Vincent Hui has to say about this new feature:
Vincent: We know getting a full fireteam together to run customs isn’t always easy, and while Looking For Group is great for appointment gaming, sometimes you just want to jump in and discover something new. The new Custom Games Browser enables you to search for in-progress games from the main menu. Games you can join are based on their privacy settings when they are created in the lobby. We’ve also updated the Content Browser so that if you find a map or mode that you like, you’ll be able to browse for in-progress custom games from that file’s options.
This Custom Games Browser is something the team has wanted to add for a long time for the community, but we needed the Content Browser and the search engine that powers it up and running first. Thanks for being patient, and we hope you enjoy it whether you’re running Duck Hunt 24/7, or just looking for new friends to slay! With the addition of the new Custom Games Browser, players now have access to the entire Halo 5: Forge and Arena multiplayer experience on Windows 10, completely free of charge. Though it doesn't include Matchmaking, Halo 5 on Windows 10 will now make it possible to find and play games with friends and strangers alike in addition to having full access to an ever-expanding, incredibly robust Forge game and map editor. Build, share, and play Halo 5 on your Windows 10 PC for free and unleash the new functionality of Halo 5: Forge to create brand new experiences when Monitor's Bounty is released on Dec. 8.There's so much goodness jammed into Monitor's Bounty that we had to break up the reveal into mulitple features. Check back with Waypoint tomorrow, Dec. 7, for a deeper look at the rest of Monitor's Bounty including the massive update to Forge, Canon Fodder, tweaks to Warzone, and some big changes to Arena Matchmaking Playlists!Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Halo 5
Playlist changes look good and more closely to previous Halo games.
Diving right into the biggest change you'll see after tomorrow's update, Halo 5 matchmaking will now feature separate lists for Ranked and Social playlists.
"We want to continue fostering and embracing player choice, and this is a big step towards that. This new split gives us a nice suite where people can go – do they want to 'lean forward' or do they want to 'lean back?' If they want to 'lean forward,' we’ve got the Ranked experience for them. Maybe you’re in there for a couple hours one night and then you want to cool down, then you can jump over to Social for more of a relaxed experience. The current plan is to keep both sides living and updated, and do everything we can to keep both as fresh as possible. We’re going to engage the community, especially in the social playlists, and experiment more to see what people like, what people don’t like, and listen to their feedback."
Ranked:
- Team Arena
- Slayer
- Doubles
- Snipers - (new)
- SWAT - (added H1 SWAT with CE pistol, H2 SWAT with H2 BR)
- Breakout
- FFA
Social:
- Team Skirmish - (new, features Assault, CTF, Slayer, and Strongholds)
- Action Sack - (features two new Race variants, two new King of the Hill variants, and Battle Golf)
- Infection
- Big Team Battle
- Triple Team
- Super Fiesta
- Shotty Snipers
- Grifball

Warzone and Firefight update details:
AI balancing
The main goals of these most recent adjustments are to reduce difficulty and player frustration. Changing the difficulty of all AI-controlled Warzone enemies from Legendary to Heroic is the biggest change here and something I’m glad we’ve been able to do. AI enemies will now do less damage, have lower health, shoot slower projectiles, and most importantly, lower accuracy. Making this change eliminates a majority of the cheap shots that many of you players have brought up, especially with the Mantis, Banshee Raiders, and Grunt Mech.Spawn System
For spawn improvements, we've added in additional Base Capture logic to prevent Spartans from spawning in Bases while they are being contested or captured by the opposing team. Allowing players to spawn in Bases that are under attack feels unfair and prevents Bases from changing hands as frequently as we’d like to see in Warzone, especially larger Bases like the Temple from Attack on Sanctum and Fortress from March on Stormbreak. Players who choose to spawn on a Base in the process of being captured will now spawn in safe areas outside the Base, requiring them to fight back into the area to regain control and defend it.Finally, there's one more change for Warzone that we will be testing with this playlist update. Recently, we've been seeing a substaintial amount of feedback regarding "blowout" matches in Warzone, especially in matches where one team is comprised of players from one large Fireteam. To try and alleviate these concerns, we are going to run a trial period of limiting the Fireteam size to six to help increase the amount of fair matches being played. While this isn't an ideal scenario, it is one that we can immediately test to see how it affects the experience for everyone.
Firefight:
When looking at the areas we wanted to tackle in updating Warzone Firefight we decided to focus on two themes: provide new content for players who have made Warzone Firefight consistently one of the most popular playlists in Halo 5, and increase the breadth of challenges available to players who just want to hop on and shoot aliens in the face.
The first step to accomplishing these goals was adding two new locations for the Warzone Firefight experience. We’re very happy to add Temple and Prospect, maps previously only found in the Warzone Assault playlist, to Warzone Firefight with this update. With the Monitor’s Bounty release we are adding two new Warzone Firefight playlists to help broaden the experience for players both new and old. First up is the Heroic Warzone Firefight playlist, which as you can expect is our entry level experience where the difficulty is tuned down a bit for those players who are just warming up or need to get their feet wet. The second new playlist is Mythic Warzone Firefight, a rotational playlist that will feature a new map to master each weekend. Thanks to the very talents efforts of some passionate members of our studio, Skull modifiers make their return in Mythic Warzone Firefight and will ratchet up the difficulty for those who have mastered the current maps and objectives in Warzone Firefight. Skulls are added each round and stack as players progress through the match. Here is the skull progression in Mythic Warzone Firefight:
- Round 1: Tough Luck
- Round 2: Tough Luck – Blackeye
- Round 3: Tough Luck – Blackeye – Thunderstorm
- Round 4: Tough Luck – Blackeye – Thunderstorm – Catch
- Round 5: Tough Luck –Blackeye – Thunderstorm – Catch – Mythic
Both the Heroic and Mythic playlists will join the newly renamed Legendary Warzone Firefight playlist to provide a variety of challenges for our community.
Forge update details:
While there are a number of sweet new weapons, vehicles, assassinations, armor, and more – along with great new features – the enhancements and additions being made specifically to Forge dwarfs everything else in this ambitious free update to Halo 5. In fact the Forge-specific bounty is so dense and so overflowing with awesomeness that we have to break it out for a dedicated blog all its own here on Waypoint. So just how BIG are we talking? According to 343 UGC Director Tom French, this update includes over 650 new objects on top of entirely new systems and functionality!First things first – seeing is believing and a picture is worth a thousand words so that makes this video walkthrough of some of the new Forge features at least a billion of the most believable words imaginable. I asked Tom to join me on a guided tour of some of his favorite new additions and thankfully our 343 video team was there to capture it all for our community. You can see for yourself below (and/or scroll down for a more traditional text-rendition of the Forge update):
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/PvdmNpiqYsY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Having new tools and objects is great but you also need a new canvases on which to paint your new masterpieces and thankfully the team has you covered. Two new great environments have been built for maximum Forge-ability.Barrens
"Barrens" is a large, open, pretty much flat desert canvas for building on and is probably one of the most community-requested canvases. It includes three different lighting themes.
Depths
"Depths" is another open and flat canvas except this one is UNDER WATER! This means Forgers will no longer have to break out of Fathom to build their underwater Spartan fantasies. Thankfully Spartans don't seem to be allergic to the water in Depths for some reason.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Halo 5
The update brought my "crew" back into playing this.
I was garbage most of the night after playing so much Battlefield 1, but It was still a whole lot of fun. It's pretty cool having randoms jump into some of our whacky custom game chaos...
We had all taken about two months off from playing and despite the rust there was plenty of laughing and banter.Comment

Re: Halo 5
I'm liking the update. There's just a lot more variety than when I last played a few months back. I enjoy the competitive aspect of Halo, but I feel like Halo 5 leaned to heavily that way and forgot about the more casual and zany side. More social playlists and custom games browser fixes this.
The post-release updates need to absolutely be maintained in Halo 6. This will help make it a compelling experience on day 1. Along with a great PC port and MS just needs to swallow their pride and put it on Steam. Do this, and Halo has a chance to become relevant and big again.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

My guess is Halo 6 will be thier flagship title the launch with the Scorpio.

Re: Halo 5
No way is Halo 6 coming out next year. It's always been 3 years between mainline Halo games, so Fall 2018.
H6 will come to PC. The groundwork is already being done with Halo 5 Forge on PC and all future Xbox One games are coming to Windows 10. The problem is nobody is buying games on the Windows store and if Microsoft actually wanted to build a new storefront, they should've done so alongside the first Play Anywhere titles.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment
