Ubisoft's ambitious open-world game The Division has been delayed and is now expected out early next year, the publisher revealed today.

As part of today's financial results announcement for the year ending March 31, Ubisoft offered a new release window for the latest game to bear Tom Clancy's name. An outline of games coming during the company's 2016 fiscal year (which runs April 1, 2015 - March 31, 2016) lists The Division as coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC during its fourth fiscal quarter, which translates to January-March of 2016.

The Division was at one point expected out in 2014, something an anonymous development source described as "laughable" at the time. In May, it was delayed until 2015, though we've never gotten a more specific release date than that.

Ubisoft recently revealed that, along with Massive Entertainment, a total of four studios are working on The Division.

I can live with early 2016... But damn it's gonna be a tough decision between Uncharted 4 and The Division... With how this game is shaping up, I really don't think I'll be able to choose anything else over this... Could easily be GOAT.

I honestly thought it wasn't coming till next year anyways. I'll patiently wait, but I hope it's near as good as I think it's gonna be.

            Called it.

This game is just too big. I hope it lives up to what it's expected to be.

It'll only be a letdown if your expectations are really high.

Lower your high expectations (and anyone else that's saying 'too big') because those big expectations only lead to disappointment. My mere suggestion that's all, it'll keep us all from feeling letdown.

People went nuts over what they showed early on and I don't blame them. The looks combined with the premise and that damn demo with the guy talking to that chick and their friends was just too 'over the top good' to be true.

Thats my thoughts. The hype is going to hurt it more than help now.

I think we're all also to blame, it's not just the devs in hyping. We see stuff and in our heads assume things that are actually pretty tough.

There is the Molyneux effect too though, where devs oversell ideas, but I think we more just need to be realistic with what's possible.

More just realize that rarely do we get some game that crushes every known idea of gaming. This will hopefully add some new wrinkles or ideas, but it's not like there's some "wall" that's waiting to be demolished like in the past.

Heres the way I see it, I loved destiny despite it not being a very great game. I look at this to be the next step of what destiny was trying to do. Destiny laid the ground work and now The Division can build onto that.

Im still in wait and see mode and hopefully we see more stuff or at least info at E3.

                            But cmon

You show a trailer at console launch plus announce the game and don't even release til 3 years in cycle and its partly our fault?

Not this one. I wasnt so hot on the online idea because of the nature of online anyway but shut up til you have something. Theyre jumping the gun

True...probably announced it too early then, i agree there. I do think that it's changing to not announcing as early as they used to for games, so that's a newer trend I see happening. You used to get that much lead time for a huge game, to build up hype. Now building that hype can be detrimental.

Well game companies especially ubisoft has been in the business of making extra buggy games that need huge patches and and and..... delaying games on top of that after these announcements.
