Game looks, and sounds dope. But being through so many shooting games already i hope there can be some unique sequences and gameplay to take home from this. I dont want it to be just another cover and shoot game with just a different story.

LOL yeah I looked it up. They said they'd rather give a great SP experience than a half a job just to sell us a game. I can respect that, and its probably something they will do in the future. I wish more devs would have that attitude.
Too bad its a linear game though. I was hoping those would die

Eh, I still think the linear style game has it's place. The Uncharted games were some of my favorite of the last gen, and those games were pretty damn linear. There's something to be said about a developer providing you EXACTLY the story and setting they want by going with a more linear style, rather than open things up just for the sake of making a more open world game.
Myself, I prefer open world style games over a linear playstyle. However, once in a while, I like to sit down and play a game that provides a pretty straightforward story in the form of linear gameplay.
As far as the gameplay goes, it looks pretty damn good. I'm excited to see more. The setting and story are fantastic, but we'll have to see how repetitive the gameplay is. Hopefully there is some variety in there.
This caused a ton of devs to get lazy and you got the cod effect in every game and Imo this just killed fps.
It's time to move away from that

A game being linear doesn't bother me at all. Especially a game that seeks to capture some point in history that I'm not familiar with like this one.
Open world games can get too "GTA-ish" where the story becomes irrelevant because you're wasting time doing other things. Objectives tend to become secondary.
This game seems to play out like a movie which I think I'll enjoy.Comment

A game being linear doesn't bother me at all. Especially a game that seeks to capture some point in history that I'm not familiar with like this one.
Open world games can get too "GTA-ish" where the story becomes irrelevant because you're wasting time doing other things. Objectives tend to become secondary.
This game seems to play out like a movie which I think I'll enjoy.
Just depends on how it's done. I that game you could move around go d in other rooms outside inside around the corner back and forth...The levels were kinda huge. Some of those game you have no choice but to clear a space and move forward to steps before something else happens or you deal with spawning enemies until you do while your teammates sit there doing much of nothing.

I think Tomb Raider struck a nice balance between confined gameplay settings and exploration.
The problem I have with a lot of open world games (sans LA Noire, but I'm in the minority) is that they feel the need to fill the world up with random activities rather than focusing on tight gameplay. That's been my problem with GTA since San Andreas (not including SA - that thing is a beast). To me FC3 is a far more enjoyable open world than Liberty City or San Andreas even though there aren't that many activities just the pure thrill of the gameplay is enough to want to explore the corners of the map.
If the gameplay isn't good then open world/restricted maps doesn't really matter to me.
Honestly, I hope they at least have some form of strategy in the game especially since you're running with the same squad throughout. Outside of the gameplay, the lore and setting is drawing me in big time.

Well think of it like this man..lets say we take battlefield for example sake. You get a mission to link up with a village asset that would require some distance driving. You have your intel on which routes are hot "IED route" and which ones are green and of course the unknown neutral routes. The choice on which route to take is up to you and the risk rewards might be there. Think of driving to you link up point and you chose a neutral route...well you hit an IED induced ambush that now your against a 6 man element. BOOM...there is your side mission. Close within and destroy enemy, conduct hasty battlefield forensics (intel gathering), and beat boots back to the vehicles and continue on with mission. Then you get to the link up and establish a perimeter around the site. Say its a home, you are charged with establishing the perimeter and clearing certain avenues of approach while your Team Sergeant and the Team Leader (captain type) do some key leader engagement and retrieve said intel. Just as the KLE comes to a conclusion...BOOM...A sizeable threat hits and takes out your vehicles and now this becomes a fight to extraction in which your literally navigating through an unknown village or city. Your essentially fighting to a HLZ where you call in extraction which would be your end point and how you get there is up to you. Enter is houses as you please, use cover as you please. I mean you could theoretically set this up identical on how GTA is...instead of calling it Burroughs you would have what we call an Area of Operations and inside that AO would be specific targets, BOLO lists individuals, and of course any QRF missions. I wouldn't say this is easy to develop by any means, but the imagination and possibilities are sometimes lacking based on the lack of knowledge required to make these type of games...or maybe they are just to simple minded, who knows.
Thats exactly what I mean when I say nex gen... those are the kinds of things that would make these games more nex gen but they refuse to bother. Shoot Red River IMO was a more engaging game than what we are continually offered on a yearly to be honest. When does it change?Comment

I think at that point it becomes a budget/time-constraint issue. There are multi-branching games, though, the multi-branching often comes in storyline delivered by dialogue. I can't really think of any game that would change set-pieces, level design, etc based on your decisions or even which literal path to take. With those types of dynamic features I would think it would decrease the length of the game as your essentially doing double the work. Plus, I don't think the majority of consumers are going to beat a game more than once just to see all the different changes.
And again, if the gameplay is **** I'm not going to want to play through the same scenario going 3 different routes.
Not to keep bragging about FC3, but the open-structure of the world works like that to me, BlackBetty. Creeping up on the various outposts (which were all surprisingly unique) and napalming the nearby brush to create a distraction while I sneak in to cut the alarm. From there I can either just go machine-gun Rambo on them or take them Sam Fisher style. Hell, even the approach is limitless.Last edited by Fresh Tendrils; 05-24-2014, 03:42 PM.

It has nothing to do with the Order, but I was just thinking of a game like Mass Effect where you choose different classes. And only ONCE in the entire trilogy, do you get to do something unique based on what your class was. And then the cutscenes in one of the DLCs was tailor made depending on what class you used. It was a sweet change to the formula. And I'd like to see more of that get reflected in other games. Maybe not in the same way.
For me, I wanna see more details be conserved. Like Max Payne 3 was the first game I ever saw that showed the character holding the same weapons you had in gameplay as in the cutscenes. It doesn't add a single thing to gameplay. But it's a vestige of the way things were last gen that I still see happening with newer games.
Some developer is just going to have to take a shot in the dark. Sometimes we don't really know what we were all waiting for until someone shows it to us...
But back to the game. Graphics are and will always be important. They aren't end all be all, no. But they do matter. And this is one of the better looking games I've seen.Comment

One thing is for sure, the visual fidelity is incredible; approaching CGI.
