Re: Europa Universalis IV
For anyone who's recently purchased the game, quill18 on YouTube really helped me out in learning the game before I got it. I purchased it as soon as it was released, and play it on and off every other week or so. Still absolutely loving it. If you go towards the release date(forgive me for not linking y'all to it) on quill's feed, it has some how-tos. EXTREMELY helpful.
I also invite you to check out a mod that I downloaded for extended time. I think you can start it in like the year 43, during the Roman Empire. Tough sledding, but still really awesome.Comment

It may have taken about 150 years, but the British Isles has no single ruling power. I've been eying a war with England for a while and there's been a couple of times I nearly went but not all my allies would join. Alas, I finally got to the perfect moment which was England having about 13k army and about 18 ships.
All my allies, in this case Cornwall, Denmark, Scotland and Spain, joined whilst Portugal and Friesland sided with the English. The result? We smashed them. Whilst Spain took care of Portugal, Denmark landed troops in Northumberland to join Scotland and Cornwall sieging whilst I took care of the army.
This was the result:
Spoiler
Only Denmark didn't get land (I am kind...). Scotland took Cumbria, Cornwall took Gwynedd, Spain took two parts of Southern Portugal and I got Lincoln, Norfolk and Essex. I won't be having a war for a while (150 manpower!), so we'll spend the remaining time of the 16th century content with what we've got. After that, another war with England awaits!Comment

Re: Europa Universalis IV
After taking over Central Europe with Brandenburg> Prussia> Germany, I went back to Leinster.
Took out Munster and Connaught. Ulster was vassalized by England. Colonized Newfoundland. Then went Manhattan and made that my capital. We now have the entire eastern seaboard of the USA under the green flag.

Re: Europa Universalis IV
So I picked this up on the steam sale awhile ago and just got around to it but I didn't grab the DLC due to not knowing whether or not I'd enjoy this. Needless to say I'm hooked but not sure if it's worth grabbing the expansions, do you guys think any of them are worth it?PSN: KMRBlue1027

Re: Europa Universalis IV
I'm in a Timurids/Mughals game and I'm pretty sure I didn't get far enough into Asia to have a large enough manpower to make up for the tech difference. France, Spain, and Portugal all have claims on my Indian trade provinces. I also let Spain onto the Indian mainland before I could get it all. This is not going to end well. I'm sure once one of them decides to attack, Russia will waltz on down too. I just hope I can convince the Ottomans to come to my aid.
This is not going to be fun. Karma for what I did to all the Indian nations I suppose.
Like I said earlier in the thread, this game is one I'll be coming back to every few months for years. So much replay value, and I haven't even touched the surface on mods and expansions.
After I'm done with the Mughals, I think my next game will be an attempt at Swedish Independence.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 07-21-2014, 11:43 PM.Comment

Re: Europa Universalis IV
Yea but if you manage to get through it you can steamroll through India and China. Maybe you could ally yourself with a western power to protect you from more invaders.
Just Finished my Austria game
Spoiler
I have never done this well before, early in game I got the Burgundian Inheritance and was able to force a PU on Hungary. Almost all game I was a part of the super Alliance of me, Sweden, Castille/Spain, Poland, Lithuania and Portugal. Mostly I just played the HRE game but eventually was able to unify and then I decided to see what I could get away with because I was so far beyond the most powerful nation.

I was able to steal Scotland from France, they were about to get a PU I fought it ended up vassalizing Scotland who actually did a nice job colonizing. Interestingly the USA formed from rebelling from Scotland and then became a Kingdom

Re: Europa Universalis IV
Picked up a bunch of the DLC yesterday (think I dropped like $70 altogether on the main DLCs and a bunch of unit and music packs, lol). Totally worth it. It's like a whole new game with so much more depth in places other than Europe. Oh, and they are coming out with another interesting DLC next week called El Dorado that further explores the pre-Colonization Central and South American empires. The DLC also allows you to create your own nations.
I started up a Sub-Saharan game with Songhai. Allied up with Mali and we'll probably pick off the others around us until the Europeans come in a wreck us. I'm finding that it's good practice for smaller stack warfare as everyone is sort of equal and not advancing much. You really need to plan out your battles.Comment

Re: Europa Universalis IV
Dropping in again because I picked up the game again this weekend. Played about a hundred years of a Sweden Ironman save where I got lucky with England offering to support our fight for independence. Broke Denmark and eventually took almost all their land in a series of wars. Made a huge mistake though in trying to be friends with Muscovy instead of trying to align with Lithuania et. al. and crushing them when I had the chance.
Was on my way to trying to just dominate northern trade as my game goal. Formed Scandinavia. Then Muscovy broke our alliance because I was getting too strong, and they wanted some land that I nicked off the Livonian Order. Buddied up with Lithuania at that point. Then I thought I was safe going after The Hansa and those sweet trade provinces but NOPE suicide war where a very strong Bohemia joined in and Lithuania turned against me and joined.
This might be the hardest game I've ever played, and I love it. The support Paradox has given this game has been nothing short of amazing. They are releasing yet another expansion called The Cossacks before year end. And since my last post, they released another expansion called Common Sense. The game is such a deep experience, and playing on Ironman is such a great experience because every decision must be made with careful planning.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 11-16-2015, 02:04 AM.Comment

Re: Europa Universalis IV
I've only had 1 successful Ironman game....that was Leinster to Exodus Ireland...then return and take the British Isles.
I'll need to pick the game back up for sure. I have Vicky 2 and it'd be cool to do a EUIV to Vicky 2 game.
I just don't know who I'd want to be. I've always wanted to try an Austria to Holy Roman Empire game.....or maybe Brandenburg>Prussia>Germany (on Ironman...it was the first thing I did in the game with massive save scum).
Lately I've been playing Kerbal Space Program and FIFA....perhaps it's time to try EU again.Chicago Bears
