Just reading the thread, it seems that there are still some buggy things happening with the mod. I'll probably hold off for a little while longer until their next release.

Re: Europa Universalis IV
Hows the learning curve with this game? EU3 was my first Paradox game and after playing the tutorial, there was a lot left to be desired (yeah common with their games unfortunately). I did read most of the manual for that game just to learn all of the small details, such as maintenance, all the different modifiers, vassals (which I never did fully understand), etc. Once I got a firm grasp on that, the game was very, very addicting.
As someone who is familiar with the previous game, will the transition to EU4 be fairly smooth or should I plan on burying my nose in the manual again?Comment

Re: Europa Universalis IV
I found it fairly easy to transition over from EUIII to EUIV. they are obviuosly some changes done to the game, so it wont play the same.
this PDF file list some changes between EUIII and EUIV, made by Paradox.
also in their forum you can look up and read some of the dev daries that explain some of the new mechanics in EUIV.
biggest change is probably with the monarch power points for administration, diplomacy and military. they are used for just about everything, from making a province a core, changing the culture of a province, taking province from another nation after a war, getting more army generals, building buildings, etc. you have a base of 3 per stat, then your nation leader adds his stats, then your adviser add their stats for the total monthly monarch point gain.Last edited by Solidice; 10-27-2013, 11:47 AM.Comment

Re: Europa Universalis IV
New x-pac
Europa Universalis IV: Wealth of Nations Q2 2014.
Wealth of Nations will bring several new features to the game, focusing on trade, including the ability to secretly provoke trade conflicts, hire pirates to steal goods from your competitors, establish the East India Company and create a bustling trade capital for your nation. With several new possible ways to direct the wealth of the world into an empire’s coffers, Wealth of Nations will serve the needs of every gamer’s inner plutocrat.
The expansion will feature:
The Invisible Hand of the Market: You can act covertly to instigate trade conflicts among the competition, stifling income and leaving yourself atop the economic heap.
Seize the Seas: Hiring privateers can damage enemy shipments and cripple their trade, but risks retaliation in the form of open warfare if you are caught.
Capitalize: Empires can designate a specific port as their trade capital, separate from their national capital, and strengthen local trade routes through the use of inland trade nodes.
Monopolize and Mobilize: Form an East India Company and reach faraway trade partners with an unstoppable shipping concern.Comment

Re: Europa Universalis IV
I got it on steam for 9.99. I finally tried it out yesterday. I am trying to unite Ireland. Probably should have found an easier start.

Re: Europa Universalis IV
So I've downloaded the Northern England Flavour mod which has enabled me to do this:
I've had to manually get Yorkshire available to be controlled by manipulating the HYW. As England, I got them to give up Gascogne (but still a claim on it), give up a claim on Armagnac and release York as a sovereign nation. This might take a few goes as England have a core on me, but I do have a truce with them so I've got a bit of breathing room.Comment

Re: Europa Universalis IV
I was able to take all of Ireland and then colonize Newfoundland. But then I was stomped by England and Portugal....and the French didn't help.
Now I'm trying Brandenburg.
