Gamescom 2013

Figured we could go ahead and start talking about Gamescom (which starts next Tuesday, I believe) here. Anyone have the specific times Sony, Microsoft, etc. will be doing their press conferences? Not sure everyone has announced their times yet, but I know for a fact most big companies will be holding a presser.

For those of you unfamiliar with Gamescom, it's typically viewed as the second episode of E3. It's less about announcements (though, that may change this year if the rumors are true) and more about expanding upon everything that's already been announced. Should be worth watching this year for sure.

Yep, I know Sony is right around that time. And I believe EA is the only one going before them, but I'm not positive. Microsoft and Ubisoft are also confirmed to have press conferences with Nintendo, Rockstar, Activision and Bethesda all rumored to have conferences as well. The whole thing should be streamed live, but I remember Major Nelson saying that Microsoft wouldn't be doing a stream specifically for their conference.

Doubt that places like IGN, Gamespot, and VGN wouldn't have streams, though.

And apparently, Microsoft will not be doing a live stream of their briefing:

Microsoft will not live stream its Gamescom media briefing next week, Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer has revealed.

Spencer gave details about Microsoft’s Gamescom briefing on Major Nelson’s podcast.

While Xbox will have its biggest booth ever at this year’s event, Spencer said the approach the company was taking didn’t allow for the event to be live-streamed.

While there will be a brief stage presentation, Spencer said, "Most of the time will be spent with the press getting time with the developers and their games. You should think about this as a room with a lot of hands-on.”

“The nice thing about the way the showcase is shaping up is people at home will have access to it. Streaming is probably not the way to do it because it will be like watching a party that you’re not at,” Spencer said, adding, “So what we’re going to do is, throughout the day, we’re going to take video snippets from the floor and release them on the Xbox Wire.”

Gamescom kicks off on 21st August, with Microsoft’s showcase set to take place on the 20th.

Yeah, I saw that. I heard that their stage show will be streamed, however. As long as we get footage of announcements and gameplay, I don't really mind. Doubt Microsoft would just leave the door open for Sony to get all of the attention.
