    Hearthstone

Anyone playing the beta of Hearthstone?

For those who don't know, its a collectible card game made by Blizzard which uses elements of World of Warcraft.

Deceptively simple and insanely fun, Hearthstone is a fast-paced strategy card game from Blizzard Entertainment. Available now on PC, Mac, iPad, and iOS and Android mobile phones.

yup, I got in on the wave on the 24th of Oct. so far so good, I just feel like I am at a disadvantage because everyone else clearly has some sweet cards and I do not... and I am not willing to purchase packs.
I am ok losing 4 out of every 5 matches (I am terrible!)
    still pretty fun.

Ive seen streams of it and it looks cool. It has a very Magic the Gathering feel to it and I wasted too much money on that game to get into this one.

If I had extra cash to spend I'd totally get into this one (or back into MTG). At this stage though I can't get down with pay to win model games. But this game looks very fun.

There's an interesting twist to the game that involves the arena. You can either pay with real money to get in or use gold you get from the dailies (ie: cast 40 spells). Within the arena, you get 3 champions to pick from and then draft accordingly. You're not dealing with Joe who spent $400 to get all the rare and epics, that's for the custom/ranked deck mode

I haven't spent any money and its been fun, I haven't felt like I'm screwed over because of my choice not to spend money.

I really suck at arena... but I feel like with all of the basic mage cards and the deck I have built my win % goes up to around 50... once again not bad for 2 weeks of work and no $ spent.

I use this list for common cards in arena http://ihearthu.com/trumps-arena-card-rankings/

I'm terrible at arena also but I'll just blame the inexperience

            Also, http://www.hearthhead.com/ has deck lists

              Re: Hearthstone

I got into the beta two weeks ago and haven't been able to stop playing. I have custom decks for each hero, and I'm now working on leveling each hero to 20. My favorite heroes are the rogue, the druid and the shaman.

For those concerned about the microtransaction-based nature of the game, don't be. Everything you can pay for in the game you can also purchase with in-game gold, which is earned by winning games and completing challenges. So really you there's nothing that absolutely requires actual money.

It should. I've been playing for about a month or so, but only very sporadically. I'm terrible, but not worried about seriously playing at all until I get to play Hex and see how these both compare.

The one thing I'm looking forward to is the tablet introduction in late 2014. Shame it'll take so long but it'll work out really well. Its one of those games that you can sit and play for 10 minutes or a few hours.

I just got an extra beta key, if anybody is interested shoot me a PM.

edit: to avoid any future PMs, the key has been claimed.

Thanks for the key! Completed the tutorial and my first online match. This 'simple' card game looks like a kids game but I can see the depth and the Blizzard touches ("jobs done!") are everywhere.

Can you play against friends or do you need to be at the same level exp for any enjoyment and it is a more single player type card game?

The sound effects, the foil cards, the art, the boards, it all has this great touch to it. I love the sound bites from the characters. For example the Leper Gnome says, "I feel icky," and the Ogre Magi, who says "[head #1]I'm ready! [head #2] I'm NOT ready!"

You can play against friends but they must be on your Blizzard friends list. You cannot add somebody you've played against in game, you must already know their Blizzard ID name and number. You can only play against friends in challenge mode with constructed decks (note: if you don't have any constructed decks yet, you can use the basic deck from any hero). You cannot play against a friend in the arena, unless you so happen to get matched against them in matchmaking. Which is about as rare as it would be trying to play against a friend in SC2, LoL or Dota 2.

In my opinion, the game is set to be a multiplayer game. Yes, you can play the AI and complete the AI challenges. That gets boring, and fast. The variety of decks you see from your opponents in regular multiplayer is so much more fun and challenging. Even when playing unranked, the system still uses a hidden ranking system to determine your skill level, so if you're as bad as I am (2-star silver) you won't get matched against somebody like Artosis, Kripp or Trump. The game does a very good job matching you with people are your skill level, so you should feel no trepidation in playing multiplayer after a few days of playing against the AI to get the hang of how things work.

With arena, I do wish that we had a practice mode for it. Right now, with the dailies, I'm seeing an arena once every few days and I promptly lose out before I know whats happening. It'd just be nice to have either a practice arena or more gold flow so we can do multiple arenas without having to horde the gold for over a week.

Got everyone unlocked and even leveled Uther to Level 10 winning maybe 50% of battles. I'm having a lot more success with the Priest. Loving this game. What is your bnet?
