        Re: Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Warner has announced Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, a next-gen, third-person Lord of the Rings action game that promises an "original, dark story of retribution".

        shadowmordor

In development for PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 at Monolith, the studio behind Guardians of MIddle-Earth, Shadow of Mordor casts you as a ranger whose family was slain by Sauron's armies. Having been killed himself, he's resurrected with "Wraith abilities", and is ready to take on the Mordor hordes. The story involves the Rings of Power but otherwise seems totally separate from Lord of the Rings canon, though Warner promises it will align.

Warner's Samantha Ryan had this to say: "Players will explore the dark and very personal theme of vengeance in a world where decisions have a consequence, and those consequences persist even after death... The game introduces new gameplay mechanics to the action genre, creating opportunities for emergent and customized gameplay that will be rewarding for players."

What sounds most interesting now is the "nemesis" system, which apparently differentiates every enemy in the game according to personality, strengths and weaknesses. "Through the Nemesis System, enemy relationships and characteristics are shaped by player actions and decisions to create personal archenemies that remember and adapt to the player and are distinct to every gameplay session," claims Warner's press release. "Gamers are able to craft their own battles, enemies and rewards within the dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their choices, delivering a unique experience to every player."

There's no release window yet, but we can assume 2015. We'll have more on Shadow of Mordor as soon as more info is available.

So it's not set before Mordor is uninhabitable? I'm confused. Was hoping we'd get a Second Age game. Also, no PC version planned? Guess I'll be passing.

Edit: I stand corrected, it is being developed for the PC as well. I'm interested now. Would still like a First or Second age game tho.

              This game looks unbelievable.
This may make me get a next-gen console sooner than later.

Question, is that footage from a 360?
The graphics look really good. Was guessing it was next-gen footage.

That looks freaking awesome. Graphically it looks like something the 360 could pull off, but the gameplay etc looked like a blast.

I believe it's pre-alpha PC footage, could be wrong though! This game is going to look really good by the time it comes out -- and frankly, it looks pretty darn close to being ready. Let's hope for an early summer release.

Holy crap this looks awesome. I don't like the Assassin's Creed series because of the combat, but if they have that style with the Batman-type combat like it's showing? Day one purchase for sure.

I feel the arkham style fighting is new standard when it comes to combat in games. Assasins creed does a pretty decent job too, however the simplicity of arkhams fighting and the feeling of satisfaction you get when killing every single enemy is simply the best out there. This is what I've been expecting when it comes to next-gen gaming. This does look a lot like AC but what they are doing with enemy AI is genius. Can't wait to see more.

To me the Batman and AC fighting systems are VERY similar. Almost the same really.
