    Re: No Man's Sky

I know that I, personally, hyped the game beyond necessary, and that resulted in quite the disappointment. My first two days were fun, but I recall firing it up the Friday after it came out to sit down for a few hours and explore, and I just didn't really have the desire to play. I put it down for a few days figuring that maybe I played too much in the couple of days after it came out, but I've yet to have the desire to go back.

I LOVE the concept, and there is a base for a good game as far as my expectations go, but right now, it's just not what I'm looking for.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for updates, as I'm hoping that base building becomes a thing in the future.

They lost the Indy excuse when they charged 60 dollars a pop. If NMS were appropriately priced, doubt we'd get anywhere near the scrutiny it's gotten.

It was pretty damn clear, especially with HG silence.

Ok but how much credit does the studio get? I don't remember you giving Bungie a pass for how bare Destiny was.

I didn't give NMS a pass. That game is exactly what I thought it was, and one of the reasons (travel and not being at a PC/PS4 for weeks is the other) I didn't buy it. I'm not giving HG a pass either. They knew exactly what they were doing in letting the hype machine run wild. I would say roughly 90% of that hype was fan created, so they let it roll with silence instead of coming out and tempering expectations. The fault lies with both sides. It's just one side that generated and one that let it go. This time it was the fans generating it.

As for destiny I played like 80 or 90 hours of that before I traded it in. My issue with destiny is when they took control away from the players (closing the loot cave and the like.) That being said, I'm pretty sure I'm buying the new destiny expansion and restarting, but we'll see how long that lasts because console shooter and all.

That's a reach of epic proportions just to try and take a swipe at EA, especially singling out something we didn't know was in until a couple weeks before launch?

This game is what it is, and I enjoy it. It pulled me from GTA, I didn't think anything other than a sports game would do that.

With Madden out I'll be playing it less, but when I need a break from sports games I'll be going back to this.

My exact thoughts. I have 4 games in my rotation.

                        Madden 17
                        The Show 16
                        NMS
                        Far Cry Primal

NMS is a wonderful relaxing escape. I will be taking a flight to a new planet to explore this weekend at some point. I am starting to find some places that are beautiful and demand exploration and some places I land....take a look around and go.....meh don't think so.

That's the beauty of the game. Do whatever you want.

Again, I definitely see why a lot of people like the game, and I definitely see why a lot of people don't. Not sure I have seen a game quite like this before in regards to the opposing "factions" or "sides" or whatever refusing to accept the other's viewpoint and compromise/meet in the middle at all.

From my perspective it seems like the game does a lot of things very well, and in some aspects is maybe the best ever at a couple core mechanics, but it also, for me, seems to have quite a few shortcomings as well.

I don't think I have to feel "wrong" for believing that the game isn't a perfect masterpiece, but I also admit that maybe I am reading too much into some comments and taking things too personally over the course of this discussion. I'm definitely a little snakebit from some interactons on other sites regarding this game so maybe that has me feeling a little defensive as well. The circus around this game post release has been so crazy....

Except Sean Murray has actually released a game within 2 years of info dropping. Lol.

Didn't say it was a direct analogy just that it is a similar situation and form subs is just one example they do similar things every year. Not taking any swipes just stating what happens

Well technically I don't own it. My brother does and we have our accounts prime on one another's systems.
