Re: No Man's Sky
I really agree with a lot of what has been said on here recently, and really during this whole thread's life, in general.
I feel like I repeat myself a lot when it comes to this game and I apologize about that. I think, as we have discussed already, there is no doubt going to be a polarized outlook on the game upon release.
It seems like maybe, just maybe, people who go into it expecting "GRAND THEFT AUTO IN SPACE!!!!!" or X-Wing vs Tie Fighter combat and space battles may be a little disappointed. It's not an open universe Mass Effect. It's not gonna have Witcher 3 lore and depth.
I've always said this, and I really believe this to be true. This is a game mostly about exploring and surviving, and they added/built up these trade and combat elements over the last couple years to expand the actual "game" side of it.
There is no doubt in my mind that there will be people who get to their third planet and say "I'm bored." And that's ok. On the flip side, I guarantee you there will be people exploring every planet, looking under every rock, for years."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Yep. I see this game as a relaxing experience for me. I just want to lean back in my recliner and take it all in.
Also, does anyone know if you can chat with others who are playing the game? Would it just be like a party chat? I don't know much about that because I don't really play much online.
I think I might do some twitch streaming as well. I'm gonna get the digital version at midnight on the 9th. So if people are on the fence I will be showing off the game.

As far as friends, I heard something about them showing up for you on the map, but only if you are close (or something to that effect), which can be a longshot of odds. To get to them, that is a whole different, 'good luck', but maybe, but who knows, scenario lol.Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 07-28-2016, 03:00 PM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: No Man's Sky
Some info on how BIG it really is...

No Man Sky uses the 64 Bit Integer maximum value for the amount of planets it has.
Which is 18 Quintillion, you can see the exact numercial value here -
If you divide 18 Quintillion by 100 Billion you get 180 Million.
So basically enough planets for 180 Million Milky Way Galaxies.
Space is Big

18 Quintillion, or to be precise.

Re: No Man's Sky
Isn't there a part in one of the Hitchhiker;s Guide To The Galaxy books where they put a guy into a machine that exposes people to the vastness of the universe and trying to comprehend the size drives them insane, or something like that? I swear that, or something like that, is in a book I read a long time ago. Your post reminded me of it."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: No Man's Sky
I have no real way of understanding what that really means. I just understand that it's too big for me to truly comprehend or picture."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I'm not home right now but in a while I'll post a picture of the Hubble deep field for some context.

The Scale of the Universe - Interactive
Especially how large the universe is, zooming in the the smallest of the small, unable to be seen by our eyes. So way far out and way far in both need telescopic instruments... and it is amazing how far in it goes as well to Quantum Foam, Planck Length, and String, far beyond Gamma Rays.Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 07-28-2016, 03:45 PM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: No Man's Sky
Here's the Hubble deep field. The Hubble telescope was pointed at a dark patch space in the constellation Ursa Major and this is what it found. Every point of light is a galaxy except for a few Milky Way foreground stars. They are some of the youngest and most distant galaxies we can see.

Re: No Man's Sky
And this is just the Milky Way Galaxy out of a ton of others. There is 300 billion stars or so in our Galaxy. If 10 percent are suns with planets, that is still 30 billion planets. Now that is just our galaxy, out of 100 billion observable galaxies.
To date we found only about 500 solar systems in our galaxy we have names for. **** is larger than we can comprehend... and then there is tons of things smaller than we can comprehend as well. Relativity man, I swear, lol.
Makes all our silly little pathetic problems on this planet seem so meaningless.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment
