No, Steam Isn’t Offering ‘Special Exemptions’ For No Man’s Sky Refunds
Given that No Man’s Sky has sold quite well and seems decently liked by people who weren’t swallowed by the marketing machine, irate players might be a vocal minority. That makes it hard to gauge how widespread refunds and refund requests actually are. SteamSpy, for instance, noted that while the game’s number of owners stopped growing, that might just be margin of error talking. People also danced on the game’s grave when its active player count dropped precipitously after launch, but that too was premature. As PC Gamer points out, beloved games like The Witcher 3, Doom, and Metal Gear Solid V saw player counts drop similarly in the month following their release dates. This whole incident is worth considering from a broader perspective, though. We now find ourselves caught in a crossfire between expectations and reality, with marketing and consumer culture sitting on the sidelines, egging them on. Questions follow. Is it ever reasonable to ask for a refund after spending 50 ******* hours with a game, given that many of the biggest, best games offer significantly less? When the stakes are literally All Of Time, does it even make sense to measure the value of a game in hours? Could it ever measure up to expectations? Are marketing and grandiose promises fully to blame here, or did some people also conjure up The Ultimate Video Game in their imaginations?
No Man’s Sky clearly isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, and that’s fine. But it’s also an interesting, ambitious game on its own merits, and I worry that the race to be The Most Outraged, Best Consumer in the wake of marketing bull**** (and some unfounded expectations) is eclipsing that. In the modern age of hype cycles and endless information trickles, no game gets to exist purely on its own terms, but No Man’s Sky might be getting the rawest deal yet. When it was first unveiled, greeted by a sea of starry eyes and dropped jaws, it landed in the exact right place at the right time. The game was a baseball, lobbed straight at The Zeitgeist’s noggin. Flash forward a couple years, and we see just how cruel of a double-edged sword these moments can be.Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 08-29-2016, 03:47 PM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: No Man's Sky
The article points out people have to resort to what some would consider, unethical hoops to dance around, "I did not like game".
Seems to me they caught wind of the Reddit posts with said 'workarounds' and locked it down because they were 'tricks' that could apply to ALL GAMES, which then would skirt policies, therefore providing a slippery slop of abuse, more so than "so many requests", which us purely anecdotal.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: No Man's Sky
I installed the updated Big Things mod last night and along with the low flight mod it is pretty cool
Only problem is it isnt programmed to be random right now, so everything that is bigger will always be bigger. Hopefully they can add a formula to randomize the chances of finded supersized stuff on planets."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Or maybe they can have them come over, and a section under the Settings to turn them on/off like plugins/modifiers.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

I like the Black Space one too. I hope some of these changes come over to the console side, or even better, possible mod support itself. A gas cloud color intensity slider would be welcome for not wanting total blackness.

I haven't used the ones that remove filters and mess with the colors on planets because I kind of liked the "saturated look" of the default scheme"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: No Man's Sky
Care to share with us the wording you used for it, because it sure was not, "because Sean Murray lied" to get said refund?

I remember being really brief because I didn't care if it was refunded or not. Less than an hour later it was approved.Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
This is a new thing. Fallout 4 has it but I heard it's buggy. Skyrim remasters will have it in the fall as well. Not sure about others.Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
this game should market itself with spotify somehow because the combination of the two is pure gold in my opinion. so many good choices, but for me in particular sir elton john and johnny cash are just amazing to hear out in spaceComment

Re: No Man's Sky
I think Fallout and No Man's Sky are the only games out RIGHT NOW that have mod support. I haven't heard of any other ones. I haven't read up on Skyrim but I would believe that it will have console mod support at or around launch.Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
Skyrim mods for the Special Edition in general will be interesting. Many mod authors remain skeptical their mods will even work or won't require a lot of work until they get the new Creation Kit. With the move to 64-bit and unlike Fallout 4, the majority of Skyrim mods require SKSE and Sony and Microsoft aren't going to allow it for security reasons. Hopefully the new CK makes the transition easy or you can forgot about 50% of the mods, which includes the best, most robust, and game changing mods.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
I started this last night (rental). I was pretty excited for the game initially buT my interest waned significantly so I didn't end up getting it.
While I wouldnt be as harsh as others, it still isn't anywhere near what I hoped for. I'm already bored exploring planets 3 hours in, so I'm just lookING for rare elements to sell to move on to the next system as soon as I can and I'm going to probably rush through it unless air land on a planet like the one in the trailer.
Combat is horrendous. Otherwise it isn't THAT bad so far. Just repetitive.Comment
