Re: Hearts of Iron IV
watched some videos, IV seems much more "approachable" than what III was. I went ahead and pre-ordered it.Comment

Re: Hearts of Iron IV
I stayed up all night playing this game. So much easier to understand then what 3 was. Between this, Total War: Warhammer and Stellaris I'm set for the entire summer.Comment

Re: Hearts of Iron IV
For the beginners like myself, I recommend these two tutorials. They got me started and away I went.

Re: Hearts of Iron IV
I decided to buy this over Stellaris but all I've had time to do is the tutorial and I quit once it was done prompting me. Luckily my wife has a dinner party for work Friday and is staying out so I have from Friday after work until about 3 PM Saturday to really dig in. If I can sort out a nap at work....Now playing
too much

Re: Hearts of Iron IV
Definitely going to keep those tutorial videos in mind for when I do eventually get the game. Been really going back and forth on deciding to buy it or not. I love reading about Paradox games and seeing all the different kinds of scenarios people get themselves into but for some reason I have a difficult time sticking with them. There has also been a rumor of a Steam sale on the horizon so hopefully this game will be one of them.

Playing as Germany, I think I waited too long to declare war on Poland. They beat the crap out of me. Had to ask the Soviets for help and the Soviets destroyed them. Brilliant game. Got to plan accordingly though for all scenarios.Comment

Re: Hearts of Iron IV
Time flies playing this game. Before I knew it, it was 5am and the sun was coming up. Pretty hard to play as a country that doesn't have a lot of resources. Pretty much a dash to conquer countries that have oil, iron and rubber. For some reason Saudia Arabia doesn't have a lot of oil, that just seems wrong to me. They should have as much oil as Iran. I love the whole idea of puppet states and all that.
Going to have read up on the HOI wiki some more. For some reason it is taking a hell of a long time to build factories and train troops for deployment. So I must be missing something or not enough of something. I know something is wrong because by 1940 Germany and the Soviet Union be moving out conquering countries while I'm still trying to get my troops trained and waiting on factories to be built.Comment

HOI4 - Dev Diary - June 17th - Patch 1.1 "Red Ball Express"
Patch coming out the end of the month. I'm really looking forward to the following:
I am also very happy to be able to introduce a new feature today. When working on how to improve the warfare AI I realized that it would be very beneficial if there could be different modes of plan execution. While something along these lines had already been discussed, the intention was to have it in a later patch as we expected it to take some time. But as the AI needed at least something basic like this I added three modes, and to test them I added some buttons in the order group interface for it.
As it turned out, it worked so well that we are making the feature available for players as early as patch 1.1!
The three modes are as follows:
Careful: The units will not attack heavily fortified locations (what counts as heavily fortified is set in defines, so modders can tweak this) and will not attack provinces that has a score below 50 on a scale that goes to 255. This means that if a part of a front has level 6 manned forts, that part will not advance at all unless micromanaged. It also means that they are significantly less likely to push into provinces that would end up very exposed or extending the front line.
Balanced: This is the default mode, and it works exactly as it does already in the game.
Rush: The units will aggressively advance into provinces that are part of the order. This mode is ideal to quickly crush weaker enemies that would be unable to mount a proper counter attack anyway.
I hope you enjoy this new feature. Defines have been added for score limits for the different modes, as well as fort levels for the careful mode. Please note that this only applies to how land battle plans are carried out.
Of course, there are also various minor tweaks here and there

Re: Hearts of Iron IV
Playing multiplayer with my brother, he is Germany and I'm Italy and it is good fun.
I took Ethiopia and then quickly lost it to the Brits who swarmed Africa.
My brother struggled through Poland as he attacked quite early in '37 but then quickly moved south to Czech.
Allies have declared war on us but the Soviets have been quiet so far.
France is mobilizing so we will have to head west next.Comment
