Wasn't clear if you still had a PS3 or other 'last gen' system, but if you never gave it a shot, I'd recommend 'Final Fantasy XIII'. I know everyone on the internet hates it, but it got me through Superstorm Sandy when everything was closed and I couldn't go anywhere, and I enjoyed the hell out of it. I think it's actually my favorite Final Fantasy, although I'm by no means an afficianado (having only played I-III, VII, and XIII) and that comment will probably be ridiculed by hardcore fans...

As a hardcore fan, I won't ridicule it. I enjoyed FFXIII as a stand alone Square title. If it had any other name, I'd probably have liked it a lot more. It's just because the FF series has such a high standard to live up to. To me, FFXIII was too linear to be called a Final Fantasy. There wasn't many options to do things other than the main story until you were 85% done with the game.

The combat system draws a lot of flak, and while I'd say I prefer earlier combat (FFVII, FFIX, FFX), I do appreciate that they tried something new. Again the system was fun and easy to pick up, but a little harder to master. But once mastered, offered countless possibilities and new tactics. Those who say it was bland and easy never played around with all the different paradigm combinations.

Now I will say, it being your favorite FF tells me you haven't played some of the better ones. Like VIII (story was fairly compelling, tons of side quests, combat made a change that I didn't like but it was something new), IX (my personal favorite, awesome story, lots of side stuff, combat went back to the FFVII style), and that's not even mentioning the PS2 titles (FFX and FFXII) that I also enjoyed the hell out of.

Sorry to go on a sidebar lol, Final Fantasy is probably my favorite series (if you can call it a series considering that there really aren't continuations of the story, until recently that is.)

I was just wanting some suggestions. I prefer something with a good story or RPG based but anything will do.

Yeah, I missed pretty much all of the post-PS1 Final Fantasy's (VII being the last one I played before XIII) due to going more-or-less exclusive sports gaming for a few years there. But with the state of sports gaming now....

Have you tried XIII-3 yet? I'm a few hours in. Talk about diverging from the Final Fantasy name...it's like a completely different series at this point. But a decently fun single player game, back on topic. But, unlike the original FFXIII, the sequels just haven't had the massive production values and over-the-top grandiosity that the first one did, which is one of the reasons I recommended it in the first place. I mean, that game had higher production values than most TV shows or even some movies I've seen. That was a big part of the attraction for me - I just haven't seen a game look like FFXIII does before. Also, I love the way the story unfolded over the course of the game, via the flashbacks and what-not. And, as a single-player game, it can suck a hell of a lot of your time really easily...

Sleeping Dogs is a good one.

Played sleeping dogs, bioshock and most of the FF series. The newer ones I hated. Still like turn based over real time. FFVII and FFX were my favorites.

Another good choice is getting The South Park game next Tuesday. I won't tell much, just this: GOTY and GOAT material.

If you have a Wii or Wii U I highly recommend Ogre battle 64. It's on the Virtual console (original Wii's) for $10. Really great rpg/strategy/rts game with a really engaging story and real tactics to the battle system.
