Well I finally picked up the game and I must say I was quite impressed. It is the first time I've played a MMORPG. I'm a defender that has leveled up to level three. So, I'm still really new. I'm having a really hard time navigating. (I haven't had to use the keyboard to move players in a very long time.) I had lots of fun creating my hero. So many different choices! (I'm going to make another one tonight.) I'm looking forward to playing with you OSers. All I have to do is figure out how to find you guys. (That is if you guys don't mind playing with a noob)

      Re: TCrouch...City of Heroes Question

Have any of you played Dark Age of Camelot? this was by far my favorite MMORPG. I have 3 level 50 chars in that game, and am looking for a new game. My friends are playing Lineage 2, but I played the beta and never really got into it. I am contemplating getting this one.

      Is it similar to DAOC?

            Re: TCrouch...City of Heroes Question

I played DAoC for 3 years (since launch).

It's much more action-oriented than DAoC. You won't fight a single small skeleton when you start; instead, you'll fight 3 or 4 thugs at once. You feel much more powerful at the start than you do in DAoC. Grouping is easier, and you can sidekick somebody. The equivalent in DAoC would be getting a buddy to buy the game. He makes level 5, and you sidekick him, instantly able to boost his defense/offense to level 45 and take him into Emain with you. There's also no "attack and walk away" tank ability. Every attack is an ability, and you use endurance doing everything. Unlike DAoC, there are inspirations to refill endurance instantly. I know that with some of the alchemy potions you can do stuff like that, but things are plentiful in CoH. You'll pickup truckloads of inspirations in a single fight. Damage/accuracy/shield amplifiers, health and endurance regen, etc.

You can also fly, jump 300 feet in the air, you name it. It's like the developers took every complaint about other MMORPG's and fixed it. However, nobody really knows what the endgame is like (the soft cap is 40 so far), so DAoC is still your best bet for PvP...there isn't any in CoH until City of Villains launches in 2005.

If you have 3 50's in DAoC, chances are you'll really enjoy CoH. The biggest difference to me is that, an armsman at 5 does pretty much the same stuff that he'll do at 50 in DAoC. You'll get a new animation or effect on a slash as you level up, and get more hitpoints, but 50 doesn't FEEL much different than 5 in PvE. In CoH, you can customize every single ability to cost less endurance, recharge faster, do more dmg, etc. Every power you get dramatically changes your playstyle. At level 13 I was a hovering blaster. At 14 I got fly and became a kamikaze "fly in, bombard, fly out of range" player. It really is a unique experience that any MMORPG fan can't ignore.

cool, thanks for the response. The lack of PVP is a bit discouraging, but its not like DAOC has PVP right from the beginning either. I have a 50 friar, shammy, and warrior. Enjoyed the warrior the most for pvp. Nothing like /slamming and switching to a 2H and getting positional styles off!

Anyways, what server are you guys playing on again? Its proly in this thread so I will look...never mind.

I like their system for PvP, actually. Put the game out, make sure it's stable. Release the expansion (City of Villains) and make sure it's stable.

Then, let the villains and heroes go at it. It will have PvP, just AFTER they make sure the game is balanced.

Oddly enough, I've contemplated getting back into DAoC, but wanted to find a new server to play on

It's been a while since I really got into that one.
