I won't say why, but I will highly suggest you get to 13 hearts at a bare minimum.

Man the shrines are so awesome. Looking for shrines has become my favorite thing to do in the game."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Farming them trying to get stupid ancient cores. Those things seem to be rare, and I've spent like 2 hours straight going around killing all the walking ones I can.badComment

I know what you mean, that's what I'm going for. I just want to put more into stamina right now but also want to get that 13 fast.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch/WiiU)
Spoiler
I'm on one shrine where you're alone in a room with an enemy. All he does is swing his sword; he doesn't really attack you at all. When I activate my shield, an orange arrow appears over his head to attack him in that spot. I have followed all of the prompts, but I can do any damage to him at all. I have run out of weaponry and have run through a lot of hearts. Any idea what to do?

You have to follow the prompts and do several defensive maneuvers followed by counterstriking. There are several more swordplay shrines like that around that increase in difficulty.Comment

Game is super awesome, definitely lives up to its name. The game doesn't hold your hand, the enemies are tough. Tons to explore, im still early in the game, just made it to hateno village. Hours fly by playing, it's nice to have the switch.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch/WiiU)
Quick thoughts after a week with the game
SpoilerI am a die hard Zelda fan that has played every game in the series multiple times.
The game is amazing in a lot of ways, but it has a lot of short comings. The shrines, for the most part, are extremely simple in nature and don't take much time or thought.
The 4 dungeons (the fact that there are only 4 is a major disappointment, as other zelda game will routinely have 8+) are much much smaller and simpler than previous iterations. The dungeon bosses are uninspired rehashes of each other.
To me personally, dungeons and puzzles are the most fun aspect of this series, so for them to be this watered down takes a way a lot of the experience for me.Comment

As a counter-point:
Spoiler
- The shrines are great. 5-20 minute bite-sized puzzle rooms. Some of them are easy, some of them are more in-depth. I think it's the perfect format in an open world game.
- The dungeons were varied, at least in a sense of difficulty. Two of them took me quite a while to find the right combinations, and two of them were easier where it was just mechanical execution.
- Dungeons don't make a Zelda game all the time. It's a big picture thing. Skyward Sword had the best dungeons - but overall a pretty terrible (for Zelda) game.
- Majora's Mask only had 4 dungeons, if I recall correctly.
The focus is different. This game is 100% more about exploration than it is going dungeon to dungeon. The game isn't perfect, I have plenty of nitpicks with it (but they are just that - nitpicks) but there's no way it's not a worthy top-2/3 entry in Zelda - if not at the top.
To each their own, as always. It's a testament both to the series itself and to the power of nostalgia that when a game this good gets released it still has debate about other games in the series.
In my playthrough news, beat the main storyline after about 60-ish hours of running around and going wherever the winds blew me. Now I can focus on Yakuza 0 and get more shrines/korok seeds/whatever else in my downtime.badComment

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch/WiiU)
So after around 13 hours with this game I just beat my first dungeon the water one and now have about 11-12 shrines beaten and I think I am at the first one that I am going to have a lot of trouble with. Its called like 5 troches or something and I have no idea what to do after like a hour messing around with it.Comment

Currently don't own a Nintendo Switch but when I find one I'll be ready for what I'm hearing and reading to be one helluva game.

Spoiler
Do I need an sword to advance? There was one given to me at the start, but I've already damaged it against the enemy. I have nothing left but a wood cutting axe. Lol.
