I was only able to play for about 5 hours before crashing and taking a quick "sleep substitute nap" before getting ready for work. Its freaking amazing so far. It seems like there is just so much to do.

One reviewer said he had played for 50 hours and could easily see another 50-100.

From what I'm reading, the game pretty much let's you attempt to beat Ganon immediately. You just can't because you don't have the items, experience, etc to reach him and do it.

So mileage could vary. Someone could realistically decide that after 50 hours they've acquired enough to reach him and defeat him. And they are likely right.

But that person is probably not exploring each area, shrine or dungeon. So I don't think it's much different than Witcher in that respect.

So one report I read is that the Wii U version isn't really THAT bad after the Day 0 patch. I can't test it to confirm or deny but hoping that is true for you guys playing on U's. Also just saw a report from DF that the game has smoother FPS in portable than in docked mode. I didn't really think to test that last night/this morning as I just figured any dips were just normal and universal. Guess the higher resolution in docked mode comes at a cost in this case.

I dunno what to say about this game other than it's amazing.

I honestly can't tell you the last time a video game made me feel like this just running around the world. Maybe GTA3 when that changed the game so much and showed what the potential of video games could be.

Would you say this might be the new gold standard as far as open world approaches? I just am so impressed so far, even if its early.

              Absolutely.

Outside of game-type preferences (Skyrim being a more Medieval type of fantasy, Xenoblade being Sci-Fi, Fallout being post-apocalyptic and GTA being 'real-world') the size and scope of this world are 100% the new gold standard along with some of the mechanics (not being gated by invisible walls or geometry and literally being able to go wherever your eye sees if you have the stamina/survivability.)

Hopefully other companies take note and see what's possible, even on rather inferior hardware.

The world (and developers) needed something like this to give them a kick in the *** saying "Hey, maybe if you focus on gameplay and style you can devote more of that budget to the actual game rather than hyperrealism." It warms my heart to see this game getting the reviews it has been, and it's entirely deserved. This game isn't coasting off it's name.

Regarding the size and scope...is the game constantly and consistently filled with enemies and things to do or is it "empty" for long stretches?

I don't have the game but all I've been reading is how there's so much to do and experience.

Now, is that in terms of a lot to explore or a lot to fight? I can't say.

There's ton to fight and a ton to do and explore.....it's huge. I've played about 4 hours today and I have barely even gotten half way through the "tutorial" stage and have fought plenty of enemies.

Yeah. It's not like every step there's an enemy, but I rarely run for a minute or two without seeing a camp I can go kill if I so choose (unless I'm trying to climb random places to see if there are trails I can blaze there.)

Regarding side quests, the only ones I've really gotten are from near one of the villages/cities. Can't speak to quests in terms of how many there are, but I've been working on a couple of them as I go along.

This game kinda feels like the biggest small world in games. It doesn't feel vast and sprawling because you can constantly find things and explore (without just dead empty space) but the world is actually gigantic and every time I zoom out on the world map I'm still surprised at how big it is.

Long time Zelda fan but made the switch to Xbox years ago. I hope Nintendo makes a comeback in the console market with switch. At the same time, I wish Nintendo was a 3rd party developer.
